Nick Frost & Simon Pegg’s ‘Spaced’ Show May Never Return

Nick Frost & Simon Pegg's 'Spaced' Show May Never Return

As a cinephile who’s witnessed the meteoric rise of these British comedic titans, I can’t help but reminisce about the humble beginnings of Nick Frost and Simon Pegg. Their journey from relative unknowns to household names all started with the iconic TV show, “Spaced.” It’s like watching a blooming daffodil in a field of daisies – you can’t help but root for it.

In 2024, Nick Frost starred in a variety of well-received films such as “Black Cab,” “Krazy House,” and more recently, “Get Away.” On the other hand, Simon Pegg is set to reappear in his long-standing role for the upcoming “Mission: Impossible” film and will also feature in “Ice Age 6.” Director Edgar Wright is gearing up to release the much-awaited remake of “The Running Man,” following the success of “Last Night in Soho.” These individuals are all accomplished creators, but 25 years ago, prior to their movies like “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz,” they were relatively unknown talents who joined forces (alongside the brilliant Jessica Hynes) for a groundbreaking TV series titled “Spaced.

The sitcom “Spaced” made a significant impact on the careers of its creators, yet it only spanned 14 episodes over two seasons. Fans have been left pondering if we’ll see more of this classic series. In a recent chat with MovieWeb, Nick Frost, fresh from writing and acting in the new dark comedy thriller “Get Away,” hinted:

I believe we often prefer to press forward without dwelling too much on the past. However, there might be an opportunity for change, but I worry that alterations could compromise what has already been established, potentially leading to a less favorable outcome or displeasure from fans due to deviations from the original.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m fortunate that we have the opportunity to explore the progression of male friendships over the decades – from our 20s, through our 30s, and even into our 50s. And there’s no need to hurry; if we create another film, and Simon and I are in our 60s, it will be like revisiting this relationship all over again. It’ll be intriguing to see how it unfolds. I believe that the work we’ve produced so far has allowed us to grow with our audience, who are also aging at the same rate. Ideally, if we get it right, our creation will resonate deeply with them – as if we’re having a conversation tailored just for them. That’s the hope.

Aisling Bea on the Prolific Genius of Nick Frost, Simon Pegg & Edgar Wright

In the latest movie by director Frost titled “Get Away“, Aisling Bea delivers an outstanding portrayal as the head of a modest family on vacation. Known for her humor, acting, and roles in shows like “Taskmaster“, Bea discussed with MovieWeb together with Frost about potential future projects, particularly another season of “Spaced“. Bea shared her thoughts by saying, “Edgar, Simon, Nick are constantly brainstorming ideas and actually bringing them to life. I often come up with many ideas but never write them down. They manage to actualize their work,” adding this insight:.

“It’s like, there’s only so much in a lifetime people can get done. It takes a long time. Nick has been working on this project for, like, eight years, and I’m not sure people understand how much work goes into stuff, but they all still do work together and collaborate together. And there’s something about like, leave that to people who maybe don’t have any new ideas.”

As a cinephile, I have to say that Frost, Pegg, and Wright produce an incredible amount of content, constantly creating fresh ideas and innovative spins on their work. It’s evident in everything they do, including the unique chemistry between them and Simon and Edgar. They’ve managed to capture and replicate this magic across various projects, which is truly remarkable.
