On her birthday, which was July 19, 2018, as the clock struck twelve, Jonas surprised his girlfriend by taking her to Crete, Greece, and proposing to her at the Citadel.

In a past interview with American Vogue, Jonas shared the story of how he proposed to Priyanka, getting down on one knee and asking her to make him the happiest man alive by becoming his wife.
After Priyanka hesitated for approximately 45 seconds when he proposed, he persisted in sliding the ring onto her finger, expressing his intent unless she raised any concerns. Ultimately, they agreed to be engaged.
Their connection developed over text messages leading up to their encounter for a drink a week prior to the 2017 Met Gala in New York City. Following this event, the actress invited him to her apartment, with her mother, Madhu Chopra, present. Their relationship picked up speed after the Met Gala in May 2018.
