It has been announced that renowned canoe-paddler and master of laughter, Nick Offerman, will serve as the official host for this year’s Academy Awards ceremony. Known for his humorous roles, especially on ‘Parks and Recreation’, Offerman will team up with host Conan O’Brien to bring plenty of humor to this year’s Oscars. Additionally, more famous faces (and voices) have recently been confirmed to present or join the broadcast of the 97th Academy Awards ceremony.
The report was verified on a Wednesday by The Hollywood Reporter during conversations with executive producer and showrunner Raj Kapoor as well as executive producer Katy Mullan. This event will mark the first time this Emmy Award-winning artist has attended the ceremony, although his equally hilarious spouse, Megan Mullaly, has previously received invitations to the Vanity Fair after-party in prior years.
In addition to Oprah Winfrey, Selena Gomez, Ben Stiller, Willem Dafoe, Goldie Hawn, Sterling K. Brown, Joe Alwyn, Lily-Rose Depp, Ana de Armas, and Connie Nielsen, it has been confirmed that they will all be working as presenters at the upcoming awards. This illustrious group is joining a previously announced list of presenters that already includes Halle Berry, Penélope Cruz, Robert Downey Jr., Elle Fanning, Whoopi Goldberg, Scarlett Johansson, John Lithgow, Cillian Murphy, Amy Poehler, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, June Squibb, Emma Stone, and Bowen Yang.
It Sure Is An Interesting Year To Be Nominated For An Oscar, Isn’t It?
2021 has been a peculiar year for the Oscars due to the scandals and wildfires in Los Angeles casting a shadow over the prestigious event. Early this year, the film Emilia Pérez, which was strongly favored for many awards, suffered a significant blow when controversial tweets from its star, Karla Sofía Gascón, re-emerged online. Some even liken it to the rise and triumph of Green Book at the 2019 Academy Awards. Given that Emilia Pérez‘s portrayal of Mexico and transgender individuals is narrow-minded, pandering, and often offensive – serving primarily to make white people feel more comfortable – this comparison isn’t entirely unjustified. Netflix has called the whole situation “disappointing.
In some circles, there have been celebrities advocating for the complete termination of the awards show, such as novelist Stephen King, who announced he wouldn’t be voting for this year’s movies due to the fires. It’s important to mention that canceling the event could have left hundreds, if not thousands, of Los Angeles residents jobless at a time when employment opportunities are scarce. Consequently, many locals were reluctant to support his requests, including this author (to be honest, I enjoy working and finding work has been challenging these past few years, Stephen).
Not voting in the Oscars this year. IMHO they should cancel them. No glitz with Los Angeles on fire.

On March 2nd, starting at 7pm Eastern Time or 4pm Pacific Time, O’Brien will be presenting the awards live from the iconic Dolby Theatre, which is part of the Ovation Hollywood complex. This event will be broadcast on ABC and can also be streamed on Hulu.
