Nicola Coughlan Slams Harry Potter, Raises Cash for Trans Charity

It’s well-known that Nicola Coughlan stands in solidarity with the transgender community, and she has voiced her concerns following a recent UK Supreme Court decision which stated that trans women are not considered women. Undeniably, this verdict had a profoundly negative impact on the LGBTQ+ community in Britain.

Coughlan, moved to action, decided to create a video addressing a disturbing issue. She passionately stated, “Just like many others, I’m deeply appalled by the Supreme Court’s decision regarding transgender individuals. It’s heart-wrenching and revolting to witness a vulnerable community being subjected to further attacks through legislation.” She continued, “It’s even more disheartening to see people rejoicing in it. I am starting a fundraiser for ‘Not A Phase’, a remarkable UK-based transgender charity.” So far, she has successfully raised £60k for them.

Coughlan emphasized, “I strongly encourage you to donate and spread the word. If you identify as cisgender but support transgender individuals, this might be an opportune moment to express your solidarity loudly.” He added, “There are demonstrations scheduled across the UK against the Supreme Court’s decision, and numerous charities are requesting additional funds to aid transgender people who have been affected by this ruling.

In another post, Coughlan expressed her anger (through) being highly upset about the situation. “I’ve never felt unsafe around trans individuals in my life. The only people who have made me feel unsafe are cisgender ones,” she stated. “You’re not advocating for women’s rights. You don’t represent me. Bigotry is bigotry,” she added. She also took a jab at the upcoming Harry Potter series on HBO, created from JK Rowling’s books, a well-known anti-trans activist. “I wouldn’t touch the new Harry Potter cast with a ten-foot pole,” she said.

Casting Is Already Underway For The Harry Potter Series

John Lithgow is cast as Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Snape in the upcoming series. Some critics are upset that these talented actors have joined the project, concerned that profits from the show might eventually reach J.K. Rowling, who they believe could use the funds to support anti-trans campaigns in the UK.

Coughlan is not only an actor, but she’s also involved in activism with a focus on different issues. She’s previously used her fame from “Bridgerton” to support LGBTQ+ organizations financially, and has advocated for abortion rights, same-sex marriage, and against misogynistic body-shaming.
