The highly anticipated upcoming superhero show on HBO, centered around the Green Lantern Corps, has left fans hopeful that it will finally deliver a satisfying live-action adaptation. Actors Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler will embody John Stewart and Hal Jordan in this new series, while Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner (who is set to debut in Superman) has also been confirmed for the show. However, many aspects of the series remain shrouded in mystery, such as its main antagonist. Excitingly, DC Studios continues to tantalize fans with tidbits about the show, and in the latest development, a key character for the series has just been cast.
According to reports, DC Studios’ “Lanterns” series has chosen Parker for the role of Bernadette, Pierre’s mother in regards to John Stewart. Parker is renowned for her work in television shows such as “Time After Time”, “And Just Like That…”, and “Empire”. The position of a superhero’s parent often comes with risk in comic book adaptations due to the high number of orphaned characters. However, Bernadette has been characterized as a recurring part, implying she will significantly influence the series and help mold John Stewart into a suitable Green Lantern candidate. The character description states:
Determined and relentless, Bernadette never backs down, even when faced with seemingly impossible challenges. Deep within, she is a devoted and protective mother, who throughout her life, has tirelessly striven to prevent herself and her loved ones from being overlooked.
Actress Nicole Ari Parker is set to join the already stellar lineup in the show titled “Lanterns“. Alongside Pierre and Chandler, the series also boasts Kelly Macdonald, Poorna Jagannathan, Garret Dillahunt, and Ulfrich Thomsen. While much about their characters is still under wraps, it’s been officially announced that Thomsen will embody the infamous villain Sinestro. Originally a member of the Green Lantern Corps, Sinestro leaves the group to establish the Yellow Lantern Corps, whose power source is fear rather than hope.
‘Lanterns’ Releases on HBO in 2026
Following the tremendous triumph of “The Penguin”, enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating “Lanterns”. A significant portion of this excitement is due to the HBO brand association. If “Lanterns” manages to succeed, it will pave the way for numerous live-action shows within the revamped DC Universe. Moreover, should “Lanterns” prove popular, it could initiate a series of John Stewart and Hal Jordan adventures in the DCU, as James Gunn has hinted that various characters may appear across TV, movies, and animation within the franchise.
The release date for “Lanterns” hasn’t been specifically announced as of now, but DC Studios is aiming for a 2026 debut. Production on this series has officially commenced, and fans have gotten their first glimpse at Hal Jordan and John Stewart. This sneak peek didn’t showcase their Green Lantern uniforms yet, but it did unveil the design of the DCU’s Green Lantern rings. In “Superman,” Guy Gardner is set to don a temporary suit crafted by Maxwell Lord. However, it’s anticipated that all characters in the film will discard these suits by the end, suggesting that Gardner, Stewart, and Jordan might have a fresh look when “Lanterns” arrives.
