As a longtime fan of Baywatch, I can’t help but be excited about the upcoming Hulu docuseries “After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun.” Having grown up watching the iconic series, I’ve always been curious about what happened to the cast members after their time on the show. Nicole Eggert‘s candid remarks at the TCA press tour have piqued my interest even more.
The iconic television show, “Baywatch,” left a profound impact on popular culture. Beyond those who faithfully watched it from 1989 to 2001, many others recognize the name for its signature red bathing suits and beach-sprinting scenes. Now, some of the original cast members are using this recognition to share their untold stories through an upcoming Hulu docuseries. Former star and executive producer Nicole Eggert has already begun sharing her personal experiences in anticipation.
Nicole Eggert’s Post-Baywatch Career And Life
Nicole Eggert started working on “Baywatch” in 1992 and continued as a regular cast member for seasons three and four. She also made an appearance in the reunion TV movie that was broadcasted on Fox in 2003. Although her tenure on the long-running show, which lasted for eleven seasons and over 200 episodes, was shorter than some other actors like David Hasselhoff, her experience on “Baywatch” significantly influenced her career. Prior to the upcoming Hulu docuseries titled “After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun,” Eggert spoke about her past with the show during the summer TCA press tour (as reported by USA Today).
I’ve come across numerous articles that feature old photographs of me, one from when I was 19, dressed in a red swimsuit, and another from when I was 52 years old, haggling in the market. These articles often carry captions asking, “What happened to her?” But instead of leaving it at that, let’s explore my life story.
Eggert acted in “Charles in Charge” before “Baywatch,” and after “Baywatch,” she appeared in numerous projects, most notably as lifeguard Summer Quinn. Now, she’s eager for the world to understand her complete acting journey. She added:
Living my life feels like riding a rollercoaster. Every day brings new twists and turns, ups and downs. It’s an exciting ride that I get to experience firsthand, revealing the unique journey that is mine alone.
The actress expressed that her feelings towards “Baywatch” have been a complex mix of love and dislike, which has significantly changed throughout the years. Now, she can not only enjoy it but also acknowledge its value. (Eggert’s statement)
Each person has an intriguing backstory to tell, not just about their looks or fleeting moments.
Nicole Eggert, the actress, shared with USA Today five years ago that she had been eager to create a Baywatch-related project. However, this wasn’t in alignment with the upcoming Fox reboot of the original series. The idea came to fruition when she met Matthew Felker, who previously worked on the TV movie Public Intoxication and joined the team as the director and co-executive producer for After Baywatch. To bring more Baywatch stars aboard, Eggert secured over thirty exclusive interviews from cast members and the original creators, resulting in a four-part docuseries.
I was thrilled to be a part of this exciting new project, and one of the first people I reached out to for support was none other than Baywatch legend, David Hasselhoff. Alongside other talented individuals like Carmen Electra, Billy Warlock, Alexandra Paul, Gregory Alan Williams, David Chokachi, Jeremy Jackson, Traci Bingham, Erika Eleniak, Michael Newman, Michael Berk, and Douglas Schwartz, Hasselhoff was instrumental in helping me move forward with this new endeavor.
As a gamer, I pondered if he would join us in our quest. That determination fueled me from the start. When he finally agreed, saying “Yes, I’m in,” it ignited an excitement within me – “Let’s get this game on!”
Luckily, the anticipation to hear from Eggert, Hasselhoff, and others about their experiences with Baywatch isn’t going to keep us waiting much longer. The premiere of the docuseries “After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun” on Hulu, which is scheduled for August 28, will provide an opportunity for each individual to share their unique perspectives. As Eggert put it, this project offers a platform for everyone involved to tell their own stories.
The Director Previews The Docuseries’ Exclusive Access
Director Matthew Felker spent a considerable amount of time on two key aspects of his docuseries: securing cast participation and conducting interviews. This part of the project consumed five years of his efforts, with Michael Bergin and Carmen Electra requiring additional dedication. Additionally, Felker previewed footage obtained through VHS tapes.
Nicole (Eggert) mentioned that one of the videos could feature a childbirth, and indeed, it did. However, when I watched those clips, it was after a party, providing an unprecedented peek into the ‘Baywatch’ cast’s lives − something never seen before.
Nicole Eggert, a mother of two, agreed to share videos with Matthew Felker for his docuseries that contained scenes from her childbirth experience. However, Felker verified that those clips were not included in the final production of the series.
The experience of watching stars like in ‘Baywatch’ is something we can no longer recall. Those stars have been extinguished by the rise of social media. We no longer see celebrities on the scale of ‘Baywatch’ cast members. ‘After Baywatch’ explores this significant shift.
If you’re looking for something to watch while anticipating the premiere of the “After Baywatch” docuseries in August, consider checking out the first nine seasons of the original “Baywatch” series on Amazon Prime Video. Additionally, both of Nicole Eggert’s seasons are available with a Peacock Premium subscription.
