As a movie enthusiast with over three decades of film appreciation under my belt, I must say that the upcoming series “Scarpetta” starring Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis is a tantalizing prospect! Having followed the evolution of both these accomplished actresses since their respective breakthrough roles, it’s heartening to see them join forces for what promises to be an enthralling adaptation.
Actors Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis are teaming up for a new TV show titled “Scarpetta,” which is adapted from Patricia Cornwell’s popular book series of the same name. The novels center around Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a skilled and committed forensic pathologist who will be played by Kidman in this series. In a sign of faith in the project, it has already been given the go-ahead for two seasons ahead. Joining Kidman and Curtis on screen will be Bobby Cannavale, Simon Baker, Ariana DeBose, Rosy McEwen, and Jake Cannavale.
According to Variety’s report, Kidman expressed her eagerness for the long-awaited project, which she’s been striving to launch for almost twenty years.
For almost twenty years, I’ve been chasing the opportunity to portray ‘Scarpetta’. It started when it was originally planned as a movie. Now, joining forces with the talented Jamie Lee Curtis, Prime Video, Jason Blum, and David Gordon Green for the Liz Sarnoff series adaptation of Patricia Cornwell’s gripping books feels like destiny. I am incredibly excited to step into Kay Scarpetta’s shoes and express my gratitude to Patricia Cornwell for allowing me to bring her character to life.
In the upcoming production, Curtis is set to share the screen with Kay, portraying her sibling. The plot summary hints at a strained relationship between the two characters.
In this captivating thriller, inspired by a popular book series, we find ourselves following Dr. Kay Scarpetta, played by Kidman, who is the Chief Medical Examiner. Upon her return to Virginia, she takes up her old role with a mix of personal and professional ties, such as her sister Dorothy (Curtis), harboring past grievances and hidden truths.
The details about the main characters are now out; Bobby Cannavale takes on the role of ex-cop Pete Marino, while Baker steps into FBI profiler Benton Wesley. DeBose plays Dorothy’s daughter Lucy Farinelli-Watson. McEwen will depict a younger version of Kidman’s character Kay, and Jake Cannavale, Bobby’s son, is set to portray a younger Pete. Filming for Scarpetta starts this month in Nashville.
Jamie Lee Curtis Says Patricia Cornwell Fans Will Love Scarpetta
Adapting something, particularly when it has a dedicated fanbase, can be challenging, but Curtis is confident that “the passionate readers of the books will find joy in it, while the novel audience will be captivated by the characters, crimes, and enigmas that are Patricia’s signature storytelling.” The film Scarpetta, directed by David Gordon Green who previously worked with Curtis on Halloween, Halloween Kills, and Halloween Ends, signals a return for them. This collaboration seems to imply a more somber tone, and Curtis hints, “there will indeed be violence.
Barry’s Liz Sarnoff will be in charge of writing, producing, and overseeing the series for Scarpetta. She will work alongside a talented cast, with Kidman and Curtis serving as executive producers under Blossom Films and Comet Pictures respectively. Other executive producers include Cornwell from P & S Projects, joined by Jason Blum, Jeremy Gold, Chris Dickie, Chris McCumber for Blumhouse Television, Per Saari for Blossom Films, Green and Amy Sayres. Scarpetta is a production of Blumhouse Television and Amazon MGM Studios.
Kidman most recently starred in Netflix’s hit The Perfect Couple and will return for the upcoming seasons of Nine Perfect Strangers and Lioness. Curtis, meanwhile, most recently starred in Gia Coppola’s critically lauded The Last Showgirl alongside Pamela Anderson. The Academy Award-winning actresses will also appear in anticipated sequels, with Kidman reuniting with Sandra Bullock for Practical Magic 2, while Curtis has reteamed with Lindsay Lohan for the Freaky Friday sequel, Freakier Friday.
