Nicole Kidman Tears Up at ‘Lioness’ Premiere Talking Red-Hot Career: “I Wish My Mama Was Here”

As a long-time fan of Nicole Kidman, I can’t help but feel both awestruck and heartbroken as I follow her career trajectory. On one hand, she’s absolutely killing it with critically acclaimed performances and chart-topping projects, but on the other, she’s navigating this success without her beloved mother by her side. It’s a bittersweet symphony that only Kidman could dance to so gracefully.

In a career filled with so many, Nicole Kidman is on another hot streak.

The award-winning actress won a best actress award at the Venice Film Festival for her outstanding performance in Halina Reijn’s steamy movie ‘Babygirl’. Interestingly, just days afterwards, her new Netflix series ‘The Perfect Couple’ shot to the top of the streaming charts. Coming up next, she will appear in the second season of Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount+ series ‘Lioness’, which premieres this Sunday. Additionally, she is soon going to star in Amazon Studios’ ‘Scarpetta’, working alongside fellow Oscar winners Jamie Lee Curtis and Ariana DeBose, and based on the Patricia Cornwell novel.

How is Nicole Kidman feeling about her current success? It’s a mixed bag, she shared with The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet at Hollywood’s Linwood Dunn Theatre on Wednesday night. “If only my mom were here,” she said. “That would be the one thing I’d change. Everything is fantastic with work, but I truly miss having her here.

Nicole Kidman’s eyes welled up with tears as she shared the mixed emotions she felt about this stage in her career, knowing that her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, who recently passed away, wouldn’t be here to share it with her. It was Joaquim de Akirun who delivered the sad news while accepting Kidman’s Volpi Cup for best actress. “I’m stunned, and I need to be with my family now, but this award belongs to her,” Kidman expressed through de Akirun. “I am deeply grateful that I can honor her name in front of you all. The intersection of life and art is heart-wrenching, and my heart aches.

Kidman shared with THR on Wednesday that the journey has been tough. ‘It’s a challenging path,’ she said, adding, ‘I’m managing to persevere.’

As a gamer, I can’t help but feel excited about collaborating with Sheridan on his latest Paramount+ series, where I play Kaitlyn Meade, a top CIA official. Let me tell you, this guy is a force to be reckoned with! He’s got a massive lineup of shows from the Yellowstone universe and more, and he never seems to run out of ideas. His writing projects are simply outstanding, and he just keeps going and going. It’s amazing to see all the opportunities he’s creating for us and for the industry as a whole. It’s truly fantastic!

Nicely announced: This week, it emerged that Nicole Kidman will be honored with the esteemed Sherry Lansing Leadership Award at The Hollywood Reporter’s annual Women in Entertainment breakfast gala, scheduled for December 4 in Los Angeles. The actress, producer, and philanthropist shared that she has a rich history not only with Lansing but with Paramount as well.

Last night, I was overjoyed to receive this honor! Sherry Lansing and I go way back, and this opportunity lets me spotlight other incredible women instead of myself. That’s what I’ll be discussing at the event. I feel incredibly grateful for being chosen.

She seized opportunities to seek solace among her “Lioness” cast members, such as Zoe Saldaña and Morgan Freeman, along with representatives like Kevin Huvane and Chris Andrews from CAA. At the “Lioness” afterparty held at Layla, Kidman was spotted embracing and holding hands with many of them. Here’s a glimpse into Kidman’s lively night out.
