As a connoisseur of thought-provoking art with a penchant for the eerie and enigmatic, I find myself utterly captivated by the work of Nigel Howlett. His latest creation, Silence, is a haunting masterpiece that resonates deeply within me, echoing my own musings on presence, absence, and the delicate balance between isolation and connection in our fast-paced world.
In a collaboration reminiscent of past successes, British artist Nigel Howlett teams up once more with Case Studyo on a wooden piece titled “Silence“. Based out of London, Howlett is celebrated for his chilling artwork, which often portrays subject matter devoid of features, delving into themes of presence and absence.
Currently, the piece titled “Silence” is being displayed at Ojiri Gallery’s group exhibition, Not Invited!, an intriguing exhibit that delves into the paradoxical aspects of human existence. The artwork, much like Samara Morgan from the movie The Ring (2002), has a haunting allure, causing viewers to question their surroundings, be it their homes or cities. As Case Studyo puts it, this work invites us to ponder over tranquility, loneliness, and the delicate equilibrium between seclusion and connection in our swiftly moving world.
Previously, Howlett mentioned that he prefers to focus closely on his subjects and often thinks about using a cinematic lens. This is because he has a deep connection to the film industry, having spent many years in set design. He’s fascinated by ideas about our future as a species, human augmentation, and our relationship with technology. These themes have significantly impacted the aesthetic of his characters, who are often depicted wearing sleek, futuristic jumpsuits and metallic gloves that function like tools for examining subjects.
Only six editions have been made of the distinctive wooden sculpture titled “Silence“. Crafted by hand and painted by the artist himself, it stands approximately 12 inches tall, 7 inches wide, and 10 inches deep. Interested collectors can secure this piece, as it comes with a signed certificate of authenticity and is numbered. For more information or to make an inquiry, please reach out to Case Studyo.
