As a seasoned runner with miles upon miles under my belt, I can’t help but appreciate Nike’s latest move to streamline their road running lineup. After years of juggling a plethora of models, each promising a unique experience, it’s refreshing to see a return to simplicity.
In 2025, Nike plans to streamline its road running collection by reducing the variety of shoe models and focusing on a straightforward three-shoe, three-style system. This will be achieved by using the popular Nike Running brands such as Structure, Pegasus, and Vomero, and offering them in “Standard”, “Enhanced” and “Luxury” versions. This new collection will provide runners with a clear selection of styles, catering to those seeking a racing feel close to the ground or a comfortable running experience with plenty of soft foam cushioning.
From the graphic provided, it’s clear that the Vomero stands out as the most luxurious model, boasting the softest shock-absorbing system and the thickest midsole. The Pegasus offers a balanced approach, sacrificing some of the Vomero’s plushness for a more agile ride that focuses on both cushioning and energy return. For runners who require support and stability, the Structure is designed to maintain balance and combat issues like pronation or supination by keeping the foot securely in place.
Each of these three styles – Icon, Plus, and Premium – has three distinct tiers. The basic or core style is the Icon, featuring popular products such as the Pegasus 41 and new Vomero 18. The Plus and Premium levels, however, provide enhanced technology for what Nike terms a “superior” running experience. For instance, the Pegasus Premium, debuted at a Nike innovation summit in Paris this summer, will incorporate a full-length Zoom Air unit sandwiched between two different types of foam.
According to Marian Dougherty, Nike’s senior director of running footwear product, runners simply desire a shoe that fits perfectly for their daily jogs without requiring excessive thought. To cater to this need, they have simplified their product range and clearly differentiated each offering, making it effortless for runners to locate what suits them best. The aim is to help runners find the ideal fit so they can simply tie their shoes and embark on their runs instantly.
Two versions from the Pegasus series, namely the Pegasus 41 and Pegasus Plus, are currently up for grabs at both the Nike webstore and Nike Running outlets. The Pegasus Premium is slated to debut in late January 2025, with the Vomero 18 coming next on February 27. Furthermore, two more Vomero designs and an updated Structure line will become available later in the year 2025.
