As someone who’s been through the 80s, 90s, and 2000s sneaker craze, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia when I see the new Nike V5 RNR. With its retro flair reminiscent of ’00s runners from brands like ASICS and New Balance, it’s clear that Nike is tapping into a trend that resonates with us old-school sneakerheads.
This year, Nike has faced some challenges, primarily due to sluggish sales that ultimately resulted in the departure of CEO John Donahoe. Now, with a fresh start under new CEO Elliott Hill, who boasts 32 years of experience with the brand, the company is aiming to regain its momentum. One of their latest initiatives is the introduction of the Nike V5 RNR, a budget-friendly model they’ve just unveiled.
At approximately $90 USD, the V5 RNR addresses affordability concerns while capitalizing on the current trend of ’00s style runners from brands such as ASICS and New Balance. Kicking off with two colorways featuring white and silver, adorned with green and gold accents respectively, these sneakers showcase the shoe’s layered construction made up of mesh and synthetic details in a manner reminiscent of how Nike and its competitors style their running shoes. Lastly, an all-black version of this new sneaker offers a more covert appearance.
As of now, we don’t have any official word from Nike about the launch of the V5 RNR or its release schedule. Keep an eye out for future news regarding new color options, as this upcoming design is anticipated to be available in early 2025 through both Nike and selected retailers. The starting price for each pair is expected to be around $90 USD.
