Hosting an awards ceremony can sometimes feel like an unappreciated task, but it was undeniably Nikki Glaser who stole the show during her debut as host of the 2025 Golden Globes last Sunday evening. Critics couldn’t stop praising her performance.
The comedian skillfully navigated the balance between making fun of and appreciating the world of entertainment, appearing genuinely joyful to be on the Beverly Hilton stage. However, Glaser, known for her meticulous approach to her work, expressed some minor criticisms about her own act the day after.
The comedian expertly straddled the line between poking fun at and praising the entertainment industry, clearly enjoying their time on the Beverly Hilton stage. Despite this, Glaser – who takes great care in her work – had a few reservations about her performance the following day.
“Just, ‘Oh I phrased that joke incorrectly,’” Glaser told Howard Stern on Monday morning.
Specifically, that Ben Affleck joke.
As a gamer, I’d rephrase it like this: “On stage, Glaser shared that “Wicked”, “Queer”, and “Nightbitch” aren’t just words Ben Affleck shouts after he wins, they’re some of the amazing films up for awards tonight.
However, it seems you’ve misunderstood the jest. It was intended to be “When he orgasms” instead of “After”, and this discrepancy has been bothering her quite a bit.
She also noted that it continues to function, but it’s a bit murkier now. However, it might be up to 2% funnier in the alternative version, though it could be even more than that given how amusing the initial statement was.
“And then there was a stumble on the television line…” she said, referring to another joke.
When Stern mentioned that people don’t seem to mind missing a joke they haven’t heard, Glaser responded, “They don’t realize just how much they might have enjoyed it even more.
After the performance, one of her authors told her, “You won’t achieve a perfect 101%, so just relax, you earned an A+.” In summary, she commented, “I went to sleep contentedly.
Moreover, Stern inquired about Glaser’s remuneration, to which she responded, “A former host once disclosed the amount they were paid during their monologue,” Glaser explained, alluding to Jerrod Carmichael revealing he received $500,000 for his hosting stint in 2023 (a performance that was almost as controversial as last year’s Jo Koy’s). “I was compensated less than that. I’m fine with it. I’ll earn more next year. In truth, I would have gladly done it without pay; the opportunity is simply extraordinary.
Glaser indicates that she hasn’t received an official invitation for next year, but she believes it’s unlikely they won’t ask her again due to the difficulty in finding suitable hosts. She added, “I couldn’t bear the thought of refusing if I turned it down out of fear of failure.
