Nikki Glaser’s Anti-Trump Tirade, Explained

Nikki Glaser is having a moment. The best comedians know the feeling.

  • Jim Carrey
  • Roseanne Barr
  • Eddie Murphy
  • Nate Bargatze

It doesn’t last forever, but a comic must strike while the professional iron is hot.

As a movie enthusiast, I must say that Glaser’s performance as the 2025 Golden Globes host was nothing short of remarkable, garnering near-universal acclaim. Her standout act at “The Roast of Tom Brady” in 2024 left everyone in stitches, making it an unforgettable night. Glaser is not only stunningly beautiful but also incredibly gifted with a wit that’s as fierce as her humor.

In short, she’s earned her “moment” (along with a gig hosting the 2026 Globes gala).

As a devoted cinephile, I can’t help but admire her relentless work ethic. Before she graced the stage for the Golden Globes, she poured countless hours into her craft, driven by an unyielding desire to deliver her best performance possible.

That work ethic matters in Hollywood and elsewhere.

She’s actually less aligned with political affairs compared to her contemporaries. Her identity isn’t rooted in Left or Right ideologies, but rather transparency, self-deprecation, and excessive sharing. However, during a Time Magazine-backed event, she criticized President Donald Trump quite fiercely, which positioned her views as more liberal than that of John Oliver.

Yes, she played the “Dictator” card against Trump.

I’ve just performed on a Canadian stage, and the audience found humor in comments about President Donald Trump. The atmosphere was lively and enjoyable; I felt free to express myself, and it went over well.

As a movie-goer and critic, I found myself contemplating the unique challenges faced by comedians in today’s political climate, particularly during the Trump era. It seemed evident that the performers may not have been fully cognizant of the constraints on free speech in the country, leading them to question whether it was still acceptable to satirize the Commander-in-Chief.

On Saturday night, Glaser expressed, “Oh my goodness, if what I just said is recorded and released, there’s a chance I might not be allowed to return to this country.” Before narrating an incident involving a fellow comedian who faced scrutiny over their anti-Trump humor upon reentry into the United States. “I’m not trying to create unnecessary worry,” Glaser continued, “but I genuinely believe that I am not exempt from experiencing some form of backlash. Or potentially being added to some kind of watchlist due to a news story I shared.

As a seasoned movie reviewer, I must confess that the array of comedic talents in this production is nothing short of staggering. From Colbert to Kimmel, Meyers, Fallon, Stewart, Maher, and a whole host of others, it’s a veritable comedy dream team. And oh, how could I forget the legendary “Saturday Night Live”? Indeed, this collection of comedic geniuses promises an evening of side-splitting laughter that will leave audiences yearning for more.

For about ten years, those comedians have relentlessly mocking President Trump with their anti-Trump humor. Yet, none of them have experienced any repercussions so far. As expected, they shouldn’t face any consequences for their comedic expressions.

So what is Glaser talking about? You have to look beyond the so-called jokes.

She’s making it clear to her fellow group members that she’s prepared for battle within The Resistance. I’m one of you, sharing similar thoughts and perspectives. Rest assured, I can lead your upcoming project effectively.

She’s focused on advancing her professional standing, no doubt about it. Having already achieved a notable level, she aims to ascend further. One strategy she considers is going all out with this “TDS” approach, as she believes it could help her reach even greater heights.

And she’s probably right.
