Ninja Gaiden Is Back With Two New Games; One You Can Play Today

Xbox and Koei Tecmo are reviving the classic game series, Ninja Gaiden. They’ll have some assistance for this endeavor, as Platinum Games will join them in creating Ninja Gaiden 5, which is expected to hit shelves in Fall 2025.

Apart from this, Koei Tecmo has unveiled Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, a full remake utilizing Unreal Engine 5 of the classic second installment in the series, initially launched for the Xbox 360 in 2008. You can start playing it right now.

In Ninja Gaiden 4, Ryu Hayabusa, who was last seen in the controversial third installment released back in 2012, makes his comeback. Unlike before, he won’t be going solo as the action game introduces dual protagonists. This time around, Ryu will be sharing the limelight with a fresh character named Yakumo.

As explained by Team Ninja’s producer, Yuji Nakao, it is logical to introduce a new main character given the extended absence of the series. The intention is to create a fresh protagonist that makes the series easier for newcomers to engage with.

Rest assured, fellow Hayabusa enthusiasts, I can assure you that our beloved character, Yakumo, will be facing a substantial hurdle and undergoing a pivotal growth moment thanks to Nakao’s role in the narrative.

Ninja Gaiden is renowned for its rapid, violent gameplay. This time, developers Team Ninja and Platinum Games are incorporating some of that high-energy action into the movement system. The new mechanics will allow protagonist Yakumo to navigate a futuristic Tokyo reminiscent of cyberpunk, using rails and wires to maneuver around, dodging obstacles such as trains while advancing through the game.

Regarding the challenge level, prepare for the traditional tough-as-nails Ninja Gaiden experience. For those unfamiliar, it’s characterized by a sense of fairness, as Nakao explained. The enemies won’t catch you off guard with unexpected attacks or an overall lack of predictability.

In response, adversaries counter the player’s attacks effectively and retaliate fiercely during their offensive turns, fostering a challenging, dynamic gameplay that resembles a thrilling fight.

2025 looks like it’s going to be all about me, Ryu Hayabusa! Not only did we get a glimpse of two new games unveiled during the Xbox Direct, but I’m also pumped for the upcoming release of Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound this year. Can’t wait to slice and dice my way through another action-packed adventure!

In the upcoming season (Fall), the fourth installment of Ninja Gaiden will hit the market. It can be accessed via Game Pass, Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, and personal computers. Meanwhile, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is already available for streaming on Game Pass, Xbox Series, and PCs through Steam.
