Nintendo Is Suing a Streamer for Sharing Unreleased Games

As a seasoned gamer who’s seen the rise and fall of countless gaming legends, I find Nintendo‘s recent legal action against Jesse Keighin, or EveryGameGuru, to be a rather intriguing turn of events. I’ve always admired Nintendo for their innovative spirit and commitment to quality, but suing a streamer over pirated games seems like a stretch, even for a company as mighty as Nintendo.

As a dedicated Nintendo enthusiast, I found out that Nintendo has decided to take legal measures against a popular streamer, who is accused of streaming copyright-infringing content, specifically Nintendo Switch games that were pirated and emulated. This information was brought to light by 404 Media.

According to reports, the company is allegedly taking legal action against Jesse Keighin (EveryGameGuru) due to him streaming games that had not yet been released. If proven true, Nintendo could potentially claim up to $150,000 USD for each copyright violation, amounting to a potential demand of $7.5 million USD, as stated by 404 Media.

As per the report, Nintendo is known for issuing take-down notices to streamers. Following the termination of Keighin’s accounts, however, he established fresh streaming platforms and persisted in broadcasting unauthorized video games.

According to a statement made by Nintendo on October 24, 2024, after some platforms removed his illegal broadcasts due to Nintendo’s actions, he wrote a letter to Nintendo bragging that he has “a thousand backup channels” to stream from and claimed he could continue doing so indefinitely.

The corporation pointed out more than 50 occasions where Keighin broadcasted gameplay clips from unauthorized versions of video games. Among these, ten games had not yet been publicly launched, according to the complaint.
