The long-awaited Nintendo Switch 2 has been officially revealed, boasting all our expectations and then some. Featuring a larger 7.9-inch screen, magnetic Joy-Cons, an updated user interface, and an exciting roster of new games such as “Mario Kart World”, one detail that’s piqued everyone’s interest is the mysterious ‘C’ button on the right Joy-Con. At last, we have the explanation for this intriguing feature.
The ‘C’ key functions as the social interaction button for gaming, enabling players to chat with their friends and family during gameplay without having to leave the game world. Leveraging the built-in microphone on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, conversations between players will flow effortlessly. Moreover, it boasts a noise-cancellation feature that minimizes disruptive background noises for a more enjoyable experience.
In addition to conversing through voice chat, users have the ability to customize the game’s screen dimensions, engage in text chats with friends, and participate in live, online interactions. This functionality even allows for watching other players’ streams (please note that stream quality is influenced by the reliability of your internet connection).
The ‘C’ button is equally essential for Nintendo’s live gaming platform, essentially transforming GameChat into a homegrown equivalent of Discord.
Furthermore, Nintendo is debuting the “Nintendo Switch 2 Officially Branded Camera“, an authorized accessory specifically developed for live streaming games directly to friends through GameChat. This device allows players to also create mini-avatars in certain games. The camera will be accessible at launch.
By opting for their own chat system, GameChat, Nintendo seeks to cultivate effortless social interactions right within their own environment, thereby explaining why Discord support is not available on their platform.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m excited to share that a Nintendo Switch Online membership will be necessary to enjoy the GameChat feature. However, starting from March 31, 2026, when GameChat Open Access goes live, everyone gets a chance to test it out for free!
