The next generation Nintendo Switch boasts numerous enhancements over its predecessor, and along with it, refreshed editions of various games originally released on the initial console are included.
It seems that, unlike typical updates which are often free for those who already own a game across various console generations, it appears that there may be a cost associated with transferring your version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to the next generation Switch console.
“Upgrades, People, Upgrades!”
According to @CentroLEAKS’ observation, it appears that upgrading a standard version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild from the first Nintendo Switch to the second edition might cost approximately $10. Here’s the original post for reference:
Additionally, it’s important to note that the cost can vary based on the game’s size; therefore, whereas Zelda might be priced at just $10 for its Switch 2 edition, players could end up paying up to $20 for larger updates which incorporate additional content such as Mario Party Jamboree.
While it may not be free, many individuals believe that the cost for an upgrade is actually quite reasonable when considering its price against buying an entirely new game such as “The Last of Us Part I”, which is a complete remake of the original version.
In the past, Sony made an error when they released a remastered version of The Last of Us for PS4 in 2014, a year after its initial release on PS3. Unfortunately, there was no option to upgrade at a reduced cost. However, they learned from this mistake and offered a solution with the PS5 remaster of The Last of Us Part II. This update was priced at $10 for those who already owned the game on PS4.
One user in the discussion mentioned, ‘I thought it would be much more expensive, a 10 or 20 dollar increase for an upgrade seems insignificant compared to their potential for extreme pricing by requiring us to purchase the Switch 2 at full cost.’
The Price of Games

It’s been disclosed that various games for the upcoming Switch 2 will have new price points. Specifically, digital versions of these games are expected to retail at approximately $80, while their physical counterparts may cost around $90.
It appears that despite some skepticism regarding the higher costs, it seems almost unavoidable in light of gaming’s future developments. As the game industry is experiencing a downturn at present, certain experts propose that a $100 price point for new games might revive the sector, and GTA VI could be the pioneer in this change. Nintendo has subtly moved towards a new normal in this context.
The Nintendo Switch 2 launches on June 5.
