No DLC for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth As Devs Prioritize Releasing Part 3

No DLC for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth As Devs Prioritize Releasing Part 3

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can confidently say that the anticipation for the next chapter in the Final Fantasy 7 saga is palpable. Having grown up with the original release, I’ve watched this franchise evolve and adapt with time, and the remake series has been nothing short of spectacular.

Story Highlights

  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is one of the best action-adventure RPGs in the business right now.
  • The game belongs to a three-part trilogy and is yet to be succeeded by the final iteration in the series.
  • The developer of the trilogy has said that Rebirth’s DLC is getting skipped to favor work on part 3.

According to Square Enix’s plans, the developers are aiming to release a trilogy for the beloved Final Fantasy 7 series, which was most recently continued with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Now, it seems that their main focus is moving towards creating the third and final installment of the Final Fantasy 7 games.

In an engaging chat with Daily Star, I, as a passionate admirer of the series, found myself captivated by the insights shared by the visionary director, Naoki Hamaguchi. He delved into the topic of Downloadable Content (DLC) and whether our beloved studio is considering such an endeavor. Hamaguchi hinted at a significant enthusiasm among fans for potential DLC, but there’s something else that our community yearns for even more than an expansion to Rebirth.

It’s clear that the enthusiasm from our audience is unmistakable, with many expressing a yearning for more content like that. I get it entirely, but from my point of view, it seems that what the fans crave most isn’t DLC specifically. Instead, they are eagerly awaiting the next installment of the series as soon as possible.

According to Hamaguchi, they are diligently working on the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 title rather than devoting resources towards additional content for the Rebirth expansion.

At this point in time, we’ve chosen not to develop more episodes for the DLC because our primary focus is on releasing the third game as soon as possible. Therefore, all our resources are being directed towards achieving this goal.

Remaking The Original Final Fantasy 7 Has Taken Three Games

With confidence, it seems this development is fantastic news for enthusiastic fans of Final Fantasy 7 who have eagerly awaited the next installment. Notably, the initial version from the late 90’s was divided into three discs on PlayStation and encompassed a vast quantity of content.

Approximately 80% of the entire game is contained within the first disc, and since both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth focus on that part of the gameplay, the third Final Fantasy 7 title might explore the remaining content from the original two discs, which seem relatively short in terms of memory.

On February 29, 2024, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was released, available exclusively on the PlayStation 5. It turned out to be the second most popular game downloaded that month on the platform.
