Indeed, the PlayStation Network (PSN) is currently experiencing downtime. As I write this, the outage, which began on February 7, has persisted through to early February 8.
Previously, on February 7th, as I attempted to log into multiple PlayStation Network services, a message appeared indicating that the servers were undergoing maintenance. This same message popped up for me when I was attempting to start up Street Fighter 6, hoping to engage in some fun with Mai Shiranui.
Is PSN Down?
Based on the current status report from the PSN Service Page, all services are currently encountering problems. Specifically, these issues are as follows:
(This version maintains the original meaning and structure but uses more natural language to convey the information.)
- Account Management: It affects the ability to sign-in to PSN
- Gaming and social: Online play and, in some cases, launching games at all is not possible
- PlayStation Video
- PlayStation Store
- PlayStation Direct
The problem arose on February 7 at 6:00 PM Eastern Time and persisted beyond midnight, extending into the wee hours of February 8.
Sony, through their Ask PlayStation X platform (previously known as Twitter), acknowledged that certain users may be encountering problems with the PlayStation Network at this time. They assure us they are working diligently to address these issues promptly and effectively.
The circumstances are particularly challenging, given that they unfolded right as many people were preparing to unwind over the weekend with some gaming. For instance, if you’re a Destiny 2 player on PlayStation, you likely missed out on the initial day of the new Episode: Heresy dungeon, titled Sundered Doctrine, which took place on a Friday night.
Possibly, you had been eagerly anticipating teaming up with your squad in Marvel Rivals all day. Or maybe, the latest rumors have piqued your interest for the upcoming heroes in NetEase’s hero shooter.
Regardless of your situation, it’s disheartening that a widely-used service such as PlayStation Network (PSN) has been experiencing outages for hours on end and it remains down. At this point, Sony, the company behind PSN, hasn’t provided any information about potential compensation for users once the downtime concludes.
