As a seasoned gamer and space enthusiast with a knack for horror, I must say that USA Network’s stunt of sending Scare Tactics into space has left me utterly thrilled and slightly terrified!
USA Network’s Scare Tactics is centered around frightening screams, but what if you were in a location where no one could listen to your cries…? That was exactly what the Scare Tactics crew aimed to discover when they broadcasted a TV playing an episode of their revamped horror prank series into space.
1979’s groundbreaking horror movie masterpiece by Ridley Scott, titled Alien, is renowned for its spine-chilling terror and profound isolation. The film’s tagline, “In the vastness of space, there is no one to hear your screams,” encapsulates this feeling perfectly, as it resonates with the fear and solitude experienced by Sigourney Weaver’s character Ripley and her fellow Nostromo crew members when confronted by the monstrous Xenomorph.
However, if it’s true that no one can hear screams in space, then USA Network’s Scare Tactics series faces a significant challenge since its premise revolves around making victims of pranks scream. If people can’t be heard screaming in space, then Scare Tactics would never be able to frighten the inhabitants of the solar system and beyond.
In other words, the USA chose to verify this concept by launching a television broadcasting Scare Tactics into space to observe the outcome.
In the video provided, we observe a balloon carrying a television set that broadcast segments from the revived version of a show produced by Jordan Peele, a program which initially aired during the 2000s, ascending high up into the atmosphere.
In essence, these high-altitude balloons don’t venture into traditional outer space; instead, they traverse the uppermost layers of our atmosphere, a zone occasionally referred to as “near space.” Yet, from such great heights, you can perceive the Earth’s curvature with the TV show Scare Tactics serving as a backdrop, and it undeniably gives off an otherworldly, outer space ambiance.
Indeed, it’s as if you could listen to the terrified shouts of those on the receiving end of the tricks depicted in the Scare Tactics videos, that is, until the balloon bursts and the entire television set makes a sudden descent back towards the ground.
Instead of ascending skyward by thousands of feet, you can conveniently tune in to fresh episodes of “Scare Tactics” every Friday at 10/9c on USA Network, right from your living room television.
