Nobody: Everything to Know About the Upcoming Sequel

Nobody: Everything to Know About the Upcoming Sequel

As a huge fan of action movies and a devoted admirer of Bob Odenkirk’s acting prowess, I was absolutely blown away by Nobody, the underdog hit that took the box office by storm in early 2021. With its small-budget production and a script penned by John Wick‘s creator Derek Kolstad, this film defied all expectations and raked in an impressive $57 million at theaters.

Surprisingly, the low-budget fighting movie “Nobody” (available to stream on Peacock!) drew a big response at the struggling early 2021 box office, despite being an underdog.

Featuring Bob Odenkirk, known for his roles in “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul,” and boasting a connection to the “John Wick” franchise through its scriptwriter Derek Kolstad, the $16 million production “Nobody” brought in an impressive $57 million at the box office. The film’s meticulously crafted plot received numerous accolades from critics, with Odenkirk’s portrayal of Hutch Mansell, a seemingly ordinary man with a loving family and monotonous job, leaving audiences amazed as they witnessed his transformation into a formidable force following a surprising wake-up call.

After the debut of “Nobody,” it didn’t take long for Kolstad and the main cast to express their unofficial desires for a sequel. With three years having passed since Hutch delivered his initial impressive fight scene, have we gained any insight into whether “Nobody” will make a return to cinemas for another round?

As a passionate film enthusiast with a soft spot for sci-fi and horror genres, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news with fellow Peacock streaming service subscribers! With my years of experience in binge-watching movies and series, I can confidently say that July 2024 is set to be an exceptional month for us.

To put it simply, a follow-up to “Nobody” has been confirmed: The production of a new film in this emerging action series was given the go-ahead by studios towards the end of 2021, with co-producer Kelly McCormick announcing the news. Simultaneously, Derek Kolstad had already started writing the sequel’s script.

In the initial installation of “Nobody,” brilliantly led by Ilya Naishuller, known for his groundbreaking first-person cinematography in the thrilling 2015 production “Hardcore Henry,” the sequel is set to bring Timo Tjahjanto aboard as director. According to a recent article on “Variety,” Tjahjanto, who has previously directed films like “May the Devil Take You” and contributed to the anthology series “V/H/S,” will take over. Both Bob Odenkirk and Connie Nielsen are slated to return, reprising their roles as Hutch and his composed wife Becca from the original film.

Nobody: Everything to Know About the Upcoming Sequel

The sequel’s filming is scheduled to begin this summer, with Universal Pictures potentially planning a theatrical release on August 15, 2025. Actors RZA (portraying Harry, Hutch’s supportive brother) and Christopher Lloyd (as Hutch’s stern father, David) stood out in the original movie. However, it remains undecided if they will make an appearance to help Hutch and Becca again should they encounter more gangsters.

If you haven’t watched “Nobody” yet, I strongly recommend checking it out on Peacock. You’re in for a thrilling ride with Kolstad’s signature style from the “John Wick” movies. The story follows a family man pushed to his breaking point, featuring an outrageously villainous mastermind and creative fight sequences that could even make Keanu Reeves jealous. Fans of “John Wick” have suggested merging Odenkirk’s character into the action universe, but Kolstad hints at subtle Easter eggs in future films instead.

If Hutch encounters his European counterpart in future films or not remains to be seen. However, the intriguing tale of “Nobody” and its surprising action hero is far from over. Mark your calendars for August 15, 2025, when “Nobody 2” is slated for release in cinemas.
