As a gamer with a soft spot for anime and nostalgia, I must admit that the news of Nobuyo Oyama‘s passing left me feeling a bit melancholic. Her voice brought to life one of my childhood heroes – Doraemon, the robotic cat from another dimension who always had a solution to every problem.
Nobuyo Oyama, who voiced the anime series Doraemon, has died at age 90.
On September 29th, it was reported by Actors 7 that Oyama had sadly passed away. They extended their apologies for the delay in making this announcement.
The agency wants to genuinely thank you for the compassion you showed towards the person who passed away, while she was still alive.
In simpler terms, Oyama gained fame for lending his gravelly voice to the characterless robot cat named Doraemon in the show, which aired from 1979 to 2005. This animated series, derived from a manga, was one of three adaptations of Doraemon and is often referred to as the “Oyama version.” The franchise expanded into albums, video games, toys, and other merchandise over time.
Before lending her voice to Doraemon, Oyama had previously worked on a children’s puppet show named Boo Foo Woo. Throughout her career, she has given life to various characters, including Monokuma from the video game Danganronpa, as well as characters in Hazeden, Norakuro, Hustle Punch and many more.
Oyama’s agency said a private funeral was held for her relatives.
