Typically, when theme parks decide to replace an old attraction with something new, fans tend to feel disappointed. Even if the new feature seems enticing, fans often develop sentimental ties to what they experienced during their childhood. For instance, the closing of Muppet*Vision 3D and the upcoming closure of Rivers of America at Disney World within a month’s time has stirred up emotions among fans.
Interestingly enough, something unusual is occurring at Universal Orlando Resort. It turns out that one of the flagship roller coasters at Universal Studios Florida is set to shut down prematurely, as opposed to the initially announced closure date. Surprisingly, instead of expressing disappointment, fans are buzzing with anticipation due to some intriguing construction barriers that have caught their attention.
The barrier walls encompass the front of the Ghostbusters Firehouse at Universal Studios Florida, a site previously occupied by the Ghostbusters Spooktacular stage show. Currently, this location houses part of the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster; however, it is set to close in August and will be replaced with an as-of-now unnamed new attraction.
Speculation arises among enthusiasts whether the renovation of the Firehouse’s exterior, as suggested by the advertisements, could possibly herald a future Ghostbusters-themed attraction. Alternatively, it might be speculated that the forthcoming substitution for HRRR (presumably a well-known landmark) may instead transform into a Ghostbusters roller coaster. The discussions revolve around these possibilities.

It’s quite plausible that fans are correct in their assumption that Universal might incorporate the current Firehouse facade into a new Ghostbusters-themed roller coaster. One popular speculation is that this upcoming coaster could resemble the Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift coaster, which is now being built at Universal Studios Hollywood. However, even if the construction of the coaster is similar, it’s still feasible that a different intellectual property (IP) could be associated with it.
As a movie buff who’s always excited about theme park rides, I must confess, those construction walls near the roller coaster don’t necessarily mean it’s getting an upgrade anytime soon. It’s possible that some preliminary work for the future is being done, but it won’t disrupt the current ride operations. However, these walls might just be there for reasons unrelated to the roller coaster itself.
Additionally, just because the modifications are concerning the coaster, it doesn’t necessarily imply that the labor involved has anything to do with increased usage of the Ghostbusters in this attraction or any other. The signs might be present merely because the work being done is on the Ghostbusters’ exterior, which makes the construction thematically appropriate.
Since Universal Orlando started working on Jurassic World Velocicoaster before officially announcing it, we can’t predict when they might reveal the details about Rip Ride Rockit Replacement. If it does end up being Ghostbusters-themed, many people would undoubtedly be thrilled.
