The upcoming John Wick spinoff features several characters from the neo-noir action series returning for another chapter in their assassin-filled storyline. A new addition to the cast is Norman Reedus, who will be taking on a mysterious character. Remarkably, the talented actor has suggested that his character’s journey closely resembles that of Wick.
In an open discussion, Andrew Lincoln (Reedus) shared details about his character Daniel Pine, a mystery in the spinoff, who interacts with Ana de Armas’ Eve Macarro. Reedus provided insights into Daniel, explaining that he is driven to safeguard his young daughter at all costs as he flees from past complications. “I believe he’s grown up with a significant amount of guilt, many murders, much secrecy,” he said, “and I think he’s reached a point where his little girl, who is about to enter this world, is ready to face off against anyone in the world.
The actor went on, saying, “He deeply wishes to keep his daughter away from that place, so he will exhaust every possible means to extract her“. This sentiment seems reminiscent of Ana’s character in a sense, as she stands firm against all obstacles, just like Keanu in the John Wick films. The desire for revenge is equally strong with Ana, and the determination to save his daughter is equal for Daniel. In essence, their characters seem to converge on this shared objective.
Additionally, Reedus mentioned that starring in a John Wick film is one of his acting goals since he’s been a fan of the series. He expresses hope that Ballerina won’t be his character’s last appearance and shares his desire to explore more about his character: “I’d love to delve into how he reached his current state, and what pushed him to that critical point.” He added, “Being part of a John Wick movie is essentially a dream come true for an actor.
What Can Fans Expect From Ballerina?
A ballerina observes Macarro honing his skills at the mysterious Ruska Roma institution disguised as a ballet academy. There, Macarro acquires various assassin methods and practices with the intention of avenging his father’s death. Throughout this journey, an enigmatic figure imparts information about the Ruska Roma and challenges her determination.
As a devoted cinephile, I’m excitedly looking forward to two captivating chapters in the John Wick saga: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and Chapter 4. The former brings Anjelica Huston into the director’s chair, with Ian McShane reprising his role as the enigmatic owner of The Continental, Winston Scott. Moreover, the late, great Lance Reddick graces our screens one final time as the inimitable hotel concierge Charon. Gabriel Byrne joins the cast as well, embodying the chilling character of the Chancellor, the primary antagonist who orchestrates a town’s resistance against Macarro.
Over its initial release, the Len Wiseman-directed movie titled “Ballerina” has been receiving favorable early responses. Wiseman assures us that the film maintains the core spirit of the John Wick series.
Ballerina opens in theaters on June 6.
