Not Aamir Khan but THESE two people were sure of Laapataa Ladies’ selection for Oscars 2025, reveals Kiran Rao

As a dedicated follower of Indian cinema and a witness to the evolution of Kiran Rao’s career, I can confidently say that her journey has been nothing short of inspiring. The news of Laapataa Ladies being submitted for the Oscars 2025 is not just a testament to her directorial skills but also to her relentless pursuit of unique and compelling narratives.

The internet is bursting with pride as Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies has been submitted for consideration at the Oscars 2025. This news, which came as a delightful surprise to both the team and movie enthusiasts alike, was met with confidence by Chhaya Kadam and Ravi Kishan, who were certain that the film would receive such acclaim.

At the 97th Academy Awards, Laapataa Ladies represents India in the Best Foreign Film Category, boasting another achievement to its name. This film is backed by Aamir Khan and showcases Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel, and Sparsh Shrivastava as the main actors, with Chhaya Kadam and Ravi Kishan playing significant supporting roles.

During a chat with Bollywood Life, Kiran Rao was inquired about whether they had been certain about the chosen movie. To this, the beaming filmmaker admitted that they had been optimistic, but there were other worthy films on the roster as well. Yet, when the announcement was made, it felt unbelievably strange.

She proceeded to mention that only Chhaya Kadam and Ravi Kishan had been consistently expressing their intuition that this would materialize. Of course, Aamir and Jyoti (Deshpande) along with the entire team are delighted, but I don’t believe anyone anticipated it unfolding in this manner.

Discussing their upcoming celebrations, Rao mentioned they aim to give their all. They’re planning a low-key event with the cast and team, but the true celebration lies in making an effort to broaden the reach of the movie.

Simultaneously, Chhaya Kadam shared with News 18 Showsha her belief that Laapataa Ladies would make the cut. Reflecting on it, she chuckled and said, “My initial thought was that this was destined to happen! I’ve been and still am incredibly joyful. However, deep down inside, I felt that this outcome was unavoidable.

Actress from All We Imagine As Light disclosed that she’d conversed with Rao a day prior to the major announcement. She mentioned that an individual at the San Sebastian Film Festival informed her that Laapataa Ladies was among the Oscar nominees. Overjoyed by this information, she swiftly reached out to the director to express congratulations. Regrettably, Rao disputed the claim, asserting that no such news had surfaced and it wouldn’t be revealed until September 27.

I found myself in a dead zone with no network reception and the call got dropped. Rao then sent me a message asking for the most convenient time for us to meet once I return. The actress responded to my message saying, “Thanks, dear! We’re actually going to the Oscars.” (Implying we will see each other at the Oscars)

In a conversation afterwards, the actress on the Magdaon Express revealed that her previous text to Kiran was a farewell one, as they were soon to receive some major news. Later on, once the news had been made public, she sent another message to Kiran, expressing her congratulations.

Among the 29 films under consideration, Laapataa Ladies was chosen; these other films also on the list were Animal, Article 370, Maharaja, Hanu-Man, and several others.

In simpler terms, this film offers a humorous, mocking tale set in rural India in the early 2000s. The plot revolves around two brides who were accidentally swapped during a train trip. As their husbands search for their true spouses, the story takes unexpected twists and turns. You can catch it right now on Netflix’s streaming service.
