As a child of the ’80s and a fervent admirer of Bollywood, I can confidently say that Raj Kapoor was more than just a screen legend; he was an embodiment of Indian cinema’s soul. His timeless performances, innovative filmmaking techniques, and socially relevant narratives have left an indelible mark on generations of film enthusiasts like myself.
The Kapoor family is currently making preparations for and celebrating what would have been Raj Kapoor’s 100th birthday on December 14, 2024. More recently, Kareena Kapoor, granddaughter of the iconic actor and director, shared a touching tribute to her grandfather on Instagram, which was created by Amul India in honor of his centennial anniversary.
On her Instagram account, Kareena Kapoor posted a heartfelt tribute in the form of an Amul graphic – a well-known dairy brand’s creation. The illustration showcased the Amul girl portraying three iconic roles played by Raj Kapoor in films such as Mera Naam Joker, Shree 420, and Sangam.

The post had a simple yet meaningful tagline, “Aaj bhi dilon pe Raj hai” (Raj is still in our hearts), that reflected the timeless legacy of the Showman of Indian Cinema. The Crew actress who was touched by the gesture captioned it, writing, “Forever in our hearts. The legacy continues.” with a rainbow and red heart emoji.
The post quickly caught the interest of both her fans and family, including another granddaughter of the veteran actor Riddhima Kapoor Sahni who reposted it on her social media. Similarly, Alia Bhatt also expressed her admiration on her Instagram stories saying, “Always a legend.

Raj Kapoor made his film debut at the tender age of 10 in the movie “Inquilab” back in 1935. Over the years, he’s graced numerous classic films like “Neel Kamal,” “Shree 420,” “Sangam,” “Mera Naam Joker,” “Awaara,” and many others. This legendary figure was born on December 14, 1924.
As a die-hard admirer, I’d say: I’ve always been captivated by this legendary figure in cinema, known for his farsighted approach to filmmaking and creating socially impactful movies before they were the norm. His genius helped shape the golden age of Bollywood. In 1982, he made a memorable swan song as an actor, gracing our screens in Vakil Babu.
