Ocean’s 11 Stars React to Possible Fourth Installment

Ocean's 11 Stars React to Possible Fourth Installment

As a die-hard fan of the Ocean’s trilogy, the news about a potential Ocean’s 14 has me absolutely thrilled! I can still remember the days when I would eagerly wait for each new installment, and the thought of seeing Danny, Rusty, Linus, and the rest of the gang back together again is simply exhilarating.

It appears that a new chapter in the Ocean’s series could be coming soon, as George Clooney has revealed there is a script for another movie. The 2007 film, part of the ensemble comedy trilogy following Ocean’s 11 (2001) and Ocean’s 12 (2004), featured stars like George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Andy García, Don Cheadle, Ellen Barkin, the late Bernie Mac, Al Pacino, and Casey Affleck. Two of these actors are now discussing a potential reunion for the Ocean’s franchise.

In a chat with Screen Rant while marketing Apple TV+’s The Instigators, both Damon and Affleck (who played Linus Caldwell and Virgil Malloy in the Ocean’s heist comedies) admitted they have no insider knowledge about the future of the Ocean’s series. When Affleck jokingly said “you know more than I do,” Damon chimed in.

“Absolutely! [Laughs] It depends on whether we can gather the entire team and craft a solid script. We’ll have to wait and see, but so far, there haven’t been many updates. However, rest assured, we are definitely open to the idea. We adore everyone in that group, and it would certainly be enjoyable.”

In 2021, Damon mentioned that whether there would be additional Ocean’s films depends on the decision of trilogy director Steven Soderbergh, and if he believed there were more stories to explore. Recognizing the passing of co-stars Mac and Carl Reiner, he expressed this thoughtfully.

“Unfortunately, we’ve recently seen some departures among our group. This means we need to regroup and find a new strategy, as our numbers have become smaller.”

It seems highly unlikely that Steven Soderbergh will be involved with the project, considering his previous statement in January about losing interest in another Ocean’s film due to it feeling concluded for him. Soderbergh previously directed Ocean’s 11, 12, and 13, but a spinoff titled Ocean’s Eight, starring Sandra Bullock as Debbie Ocean (Danny Ocean’s sister), was directed by Gary Ross and premiered in 2018.

What Could Ocean’s 14 Be About?

In December, Clooney teased Ocean’s 14 (although he wouldn’t call it that), sharing:

“We’ve developed an excellent script for another Ocean’s film, which might lead us to make another one. In fact, it’s an outstanding script.”

George Clooney suggested that the possible sequel movie bears resemblance to the 1979 comedy “Going in Style,” where three elderly individuals opted for bank robbery as a means to inject some thrill into their mundane lives (a remake of this film was released in 2017 under the same name, directed by Zach Braff and starring Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and Alan Arkin). The notion of Danny, Rusty Ryan (Brad Pitt), Linus, and their gang returning to robbery to spice up their dull routines seventeen years after their last heist is an intriguing plot concept.

It’s yet unclear if we’ll witness the iconic Ocean’s 13 crew assemble for another caper, but a new Ocean’s movie is in production by Warner Bros., expanding the Ocean’s universe with two high-profile stars. A prequel, taking place in Europe during the ’60s, could bring back Barbie co-stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as they step into the roles of Danny and Debbie’s parents.

As we anticipate further updates about the reunion of the “Ocean’s” crew, let’s enjoy the on-screen collaboration between George Clooney and Brad Pitt, coming to theaters on September 20 with Jon Watts’ film, titled “Wolves”.
