‘Of Course’ Game Of Thrones Hodor Actor Compares His Series To House Of The Dragon, And He Has The Perfect Analogy

As a die-hard fan of both “Game of Thrones” and “House of the Dragon”, I must say that my heart swells with nostalgia when I watch the latter, much like how an old alumnus might feel upon returning to their alma mater after many years. The connection between these two series is undeniable, akin to the interwoven threads of the great tapestry of Westeros itself.

HBO has long been known for premium TV content, and not many shows have garnered the massive viewership of “Game of Thrones,” now available on stream for Max subscribers. Despite the somewhat polarizing ending, fans haven’t hesitated to return for the prequel series titled “House of the Dragon.” An actor from “Game of Thrones” shares his thoughts on both shows, and he provides a fitting comparison. Let’s delve into it together.

Actor Kristian Nairn, known for his role in “Game of Thrones,” featured in 23 episodes before the character Hodor passed away. In a candid conversation with ScreenRant, he shared insights about his connection to the upcoming series “House of the Dragon.

Absolutely, I do compare [them]. It’s similar to a new semester at college or school, where we find ourselves in a more mature role. Recently, I attended a convention with Tom Glynn-Carney (Aegon from House of the Dragon), and it was fascinating to observe him handle PR tasks. Yes, I am proud of them, although they don’t need my pride. In my opinion, season 1 was exceptional, almost on par with Game of Thrones. It felt like an extension, even though it’s set in the past, I found myself thinking it was just the next episode or something more.

Indeed, I find this analogy quite captivating. Though they are distinct productions, there’s an undeniable similarity in their visual themes and moods. It’s as if House of the Dragon (HOTD) and Game of Thrones (GOT) are simply two academic terms within the same educational institution.

As a devoted fan, I found myself engaging in lively conversations with fellow enthusiasts about House of the Dragon’s Season 2 finale, which left many of us pondering its excellence and rhythm. Some viewers were disheartened by the cliffhanger ending, but let’s be honest, that was par for the course when it came to Game of Thrones; the penultimate episode was a whirlwind of action, while the finale provided a chance to see the aftermath and set the stage for the upcoming season.

During the same conversation, Nairn shared his personal thoughts regarding “House of the Dragon” Season 2 and its link to the show where he previously acted. To quote him directly:

As a devoted fan, I must confess that while Season 2 resonates with me in its own unique way, it doesn’t quite align with my initial expectations. It’s not that I dislike it; rather, it presents an entirely different atmosphere. I can’t help but feel that this might be a departure from the original vision, but I could very well be mistaken.

It’s hard to ignore the impression that the dragons from House of the Dragon leave behind. Unlike Game of Thrones, which only showcased three dragons belonging to Dany, this prequel offers a range of dragon shapes and sizes, making it easier for viewers to become attached. Unfortunately, it appears that many of these dragons may not survive due to the conflict between the Blacks and Greens.

It certainly seems like Season 3 of HOTD will be a wild one, as all the places have been assembled for all-out war between the Targaryens. And it should be thrilling to see what goes down, especially for those who haven’t heard George R.R. Martin’s book.

Both “House of the Dragon” and “Game of Thrones” can currently be streamed on Max. Take a look at our TV schedule for your upcoming binge-watching session, which includes additional tales set within the world of Westeros.
