Of Course Jensen Ackles’ Tracker Return Would Be About Aliens

Of Course Jensen Ackles' Tracker Return Would Be About Aliens

As a longtime fan of Jensen Ackles and his captivating performances, I can’t help but be thrilled about his return to “Tracker” as Russell Shaw. The intriguing plot twists and supernatural undertones in this series are a perfect blend of his past roles on shows like “Supernatural” and “The Boys.” It feels like the cosmos has aligned, bringing Ackles back to the small screen just when we needed a dose of his charm and charisma.

Fans of the show “Tracker” were thrilled when they discovered that Jensen Ackles would reprise his role as Russell Shaw not for one, but for at least two episodes in Season 2. The anticipation is particularly high because Ackles’ performance in Season 1’s “Off the Books” was a standout moment in an otherwise impressive opening season, adding a fresh family dynamic for Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley) to grapple with. However, we can’t help but notice a recurring theme: whenever Russell appears, strange occurrences seem to follow. In the upcoming Season 2 episode “Ontological Shock,” it looks like Colter and Russell will find themselves entangled in an X-Files-like government conspiracy involving possible contact with a real-life Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon (UAP), or as we commonly know it, a UFO. It all seems to fit perfectly with the series’ narrative.

In this show, Russell expresses his belief in extraterrestrial life (it’s not shocking that Colter disagrees), and while the episode doesn’t clarify whether the mysterious lights in the sky are human-made or alien, it’s not unreasonable to assume the involvement of something otherworldly. In his first appearance on the series, Russell takes Colter to a magic shop, talking about “curses” and “blessings” in a way that seems reminiscent of Ackles’ past work on “Supernatural.” Of course, “Supernatural” has delved into UFO themes before, as seen in Season 6’s episode titled “Clap Your Hands If You Believe,” where it was revealed that while aliens may not exist, fairies do.

It appears that Jensen Ackles’ past character as Dean Winchester from “Supernatural” is always catching up with him, even when he ventures into new roles, such as Sheriff Beau Arlen on ABC’s “Big Sky,” Soldier Boy on “The Boys,” and now Tracker. However, it doesn’t seem to bother him in the least.

Tracker will probably never fully explore the paranormal

Of Course Jensen Ackles' Tracker Return Would Be About Aliens

Although it seems improbable that the show “Tracker” will transform into a paranormal investigation series in the near future, imagine the thrill if Russell (the believer) and Colter (the skeptic) were to chase ghosts or demons instead! However, the series might not venture that far. Still, Season 1’s episode “Aurora” has Colter delving into ghost hunting, albeit for a missing person case. This slight exploration keeps open the possibility that Russell’s next scene could also involve some mysterious occurrences somewhere in the U.S., given Jensen Ackles’ fame from “Supernatural.” Fans would certainly appreciate another chance to revisit familiar territory!

Nevertheless, it’s delightful to see Jensen Ackles resume his role in “Tracker,” hinting at another appearance this season. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for a grand Shaw family gathering, as their sister Dory (Melissa Roxburgh, who has worked with “Supernatural” before) and mother Mary Dove Shaw (Wendy Crewson) are due to return this season. After the episode “Ontological Shock,” we’re more curious than ever about the fate of Colter and Russell’s father, and with the Department of Defense now involved, it seems there’s a deeper plot at play. However, neither the DOD nor any adversary can outmatch the Shaw brothers.
