Update: In December mid-way through, we showcased a forthcoming collaboration between Swarovski, Ja Morant, and Nike, a sequel to their Ja 1 from the previous year. The team is set to reunite for NBA All-Star Weekend this year, but here’s an exciting twist: instead of one, there will be two versions released!
The colorway we initially previewed last year for the Ja 2 is named “Scratch Black Label.” It boasts crystals at specific locations such as the lateral’s “scratch” marks, the medial Swoosh, and the tongue branding. However, due to the extensive use of crystals, this pair will not carry the $550 USD price tag we previously mentioned; that will be assigned to a second pair that is more heavily adorned with crystals. The “Scratch Black Label” version, retailing at $150 USD, will hit stores on Valentine’s Day in a limited edition of 1999 numbered pairs, acknowledging Ja Morant’s birth year.
A notice accompanying leaked pairs indicates that the “Scratch Black Label” colorway is a collector’s item and is not intended for regular use or strenuous activity.
In February 2025, Nike and basketball player Ja Morant will make a return to the spotlight with the release of his second signature shoe, the Ja 2, which has been enhanced with Swarovski crystals for the NBA All-Star Weekend. This new version is a sequel to the Swarovski x Nike Ja 1 that was launched for the 2024 All-Star Weekend. The limited edition sneakers are expensive and, in line with Swarovski’s reputation, exude luxury.
Without crystal adornments, the shoe boasts a straightforward color combination of black suede, mesh, and synthetic materials. This basic design serves as a blank canvas for the Swarovski embellishments, which are strategically placed on the tongue logo, medial Swoosh, and an innovative new detail on the lateral quarter panel – a “slash” style graphic reminiscent of the back print on the Ja 2 “Nightmare”. This design element is likely inspired by Morant’s Memphis Grizzlies team and replaces regular Nike branding. Additionally, each shoe has a numbered label inside the tongue that reads “1 of 1999”, though it remains unclear if each pair displays a unique number on this tag at the time of writing.
The Swarovski x Nike collaboration, known as the Ja 2, is set to arrive on Valentine’s Day, and it will cost $550 USD, which is $150 more expensive than its predecessor, the Ja 1. Details about the release strategy are still not clear. It might be a widespread SNKRS launch or could start with a local drop in San Francisco, as the city hosts the 2025 NBA All-Star Game.
