Actor Anthony Mackie, who starred in “Captain America: Brave New World,” expresses optimism that the upcoming MCU film will restore the franchise to its previous glory, following a series of disappointing and poorly received releases. In “Brave New World,” Mackie reprises his role as Sam Wilson, having officially taken on the Captain America mantle in the Disney+ series, “Falcon and the Winter Soldier.” In this new adventure, Wilson encounters a fresh challenge from the formidable Serpent Society.
In addition to Mackie, the film also features Harrison Ford playing Thadeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, also known as Red Hulk, Giancarlo Esposito as Seth Voelker, Tim Blake Nelson portraying The Leader, and Danny Ramirez in the role of Joaquin Torres.
In an exclusive sneak peek at the movie-making process of Captain America: Brave New World, Anthony Mackie expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe release. “I always look forward to going on set because we’re working on Captain America,” he said. “Receiving the shield holds special significance for me; it’s a very personal experience.
Mackie’s subsequent statement ignited even greater enthusiasm among fans, as the actor hinted that “Brave New World” would take them on a trip back to the golden age of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He elaborated:
Folks will definitely enjoy seeing a return of the classic Marvel style in [Brave New World], and I can’t wait for everyone to witness this revival!
In the special featurette, Marvel Studios’ president Kevin Feige discussed Sam Wilson’s character at the beginning of “Brave New World“. Despite his hesitation about taking up the shield in “Falcon and the Winter Soldier“, as revealed by Feige, he has fully embraced the role in the upcoming film. “He has chosen, without reservation, to be Captain America,” stated Feige.
Harrison Ford’s Casting Was a “Pinch Yourself” Moment for Kevin Feige
“One of the many instances that make you wonder if it’s real, is Harrison Ford portraying President Ross.” Feige mentioned this. Previously, William Hurt played Thunderbolt Ross in “The Incredible Hulk,” and later, Ford assumed the role in “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Endgame,” and “Black Widow,” before his demise in 2022.
In previous instances, Ford has playfully mentioned considering the role for the lucrative Marvel salary, but in this interview he appeared more sincere. Ford admitted that he’s observed many actors enjoying their work in Marvel Cinematic Universe films and began to ponder if he could also be a part of it, stating, “I see actors in Marvel movies having a fantastic experience, so I thought, ‘Perhaps it’s time for me to join the fun.’
The highly anticipated film “Captain America: Brave New World” will make its big-screen debut on Valentine’s Day, February 14th. This movie is one of three Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films set to release this year. The movie titled “Thunderbolts,” inspired by Ford’s character in “Brave New World,” is scheduled for a theater release on May 2nd, 2025. Finally, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is slated for July 25th, 2025.
*Note: It was not specified whether Thunderbolts refers to the original team or a new version in this context, so I left it as it was provided.
