The list goes on … and on.
Sketch comedy is synonymous with “SNL” after decades of iconic clips. Bravo, indeed.
SNL, once known for its anarchy and innovation, has faced challenges in recent times due to internal issues. Now, it seems to have found a place within the progressive agenda of the Left. It appears that a show can maintain a counter-culture status for only so long, but the moment seems overripe for challenging progressive orthodoxy.
Instead, “SNL” knelt for a prolonged period. Exceptions such as these sketches showed a deviation from the usual corporate norms.
It’s nice to observe two former “SNL” cast members taking charge and delivering the humorous content that the show ought to present.
David Spade and Dana Carvey team up for “Fly on the Wall,” a podcast born from their time at “SNL.” In this show, they delve into topics such as Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky revealing that a significant portion of the aid provided by the United States to his conflict-stricken nation did not reach its destination.
Approximately $100 billion has disappeared, a tale that could potentially trouble the sleep of investigative journalists. Humorists and satirists might find this an irresistible topic, using their craft to shed light on the situation while poking fun at those in authority.
Late-night comedians haven’t run with the material. It’s unlikely “SNL” will, either.
Why? Wrong narrative. Wrong party.
Spade expressed his viewpoint in a simpler way: “It’s overwhelming to manage billions. Frankly, I found millions hard enough. Now, with billions, I wonder if it’s being used properly. Who can truly tell?
The duo named names. Former President Joe Biden, for one. Calif. Gov. Gavin Newsom, too.
Biden dispatched a substantial financial aid to Gavin Newsom, instructing him to ensure its delivery to Zelensky. According to Carvey, this reflects the level of inefficiency characteristic of California.
California is well-known due to $20 million supposedly meant for homeless services mysteriously disappearing, according to Spade. However, he clarified that it wasn’t lost, merely misplaced. This situation makes one question the purpose of taxes when one sees no tangible improvements but instead observes things worsening. More money seems only to exacerbate problems. I can’t quite grasp how the Ukraine [situation] transpired… but perhaps they transferred it using Zelle.
“DOGE is working on it,” Carvey said.
Why does this matter?
Humor can slice through the clutter of news, making a complex issue clearer than a solitary news headline or research document with its findings.
1) What exactly is the destination of American taxpayer dollars? Why do we seem to be hemorrhaging billions in the process? Isn’t it crucial that we find out the answers to these queries?
The second sentence can also be rephrased as: Why are so many billions disappearing instead of reaching their intended destinations, and why isn’t locating the answers a priority for us?
Is it possible that “Saturday Night Live” will delve into these topics? Or, could it be that former SNL cast members, producing a podcast under less funding than the original show, are the ones tackling the challenging issues while adding humor to their discussions?
We certainly do have an answer now. That’s what makes the 50th anniversary of this show a mix of joy and sadness. The grand premiere event will take place on NBC starting February 16.
