As a seasoned gamer who has navigated through countless virtual worlds and social circles, I must admit that the Hamptons’ summer soirees have taken my avatar to new heights of reality! The star-studded events hosted by Haiti Air Ambulance and Southampton Arts Center were nothing short of a dream sequence.
Over the weekend preceding the Democratic National Convention, during an intensely busy period for presidential fundraising, influential figures from the Hamptons with notable political backgrounds attended a string of events in the upscale Eastern region. These gatherings also attracted individuals from the entertainment industry.
Last Saturday, August 17th, two significant charity events took place on the same evening. One of these was a fundraiser hosted by the nonprofit Haiti Air Ambulance at Ken Fishel’s Bridgehampton residence. Notable attendees included advertising mogul Jerry Della Femina, author, producer, and fashion designer Julia Haart. Simultaneously, the Southampton Arts Center held its SummerFest gala. Attendees at this event included Adrienne Warren, a Tony Award-winner, Broadway star Jessica Vosk, as well as Candace Bushnell, Peter Thomas Roth (a renowned skincare expert), and real estate magnate David Levinson. These two events were both charitable functions that took place during the evening of August 17th.
Last Sunday, August 18th, some influential figures from the Hamptons attended a movie screening at Southampton Arts Center. The film was produced by Earle Mack, who has previously served as the U.S. Ambassador to Finland, the head of New York State Council on the Arts, and is also the producer and co-director of the documentary titled “The Children of Theatre Street“.
As a game enthusiast, I recently found myself in an exclusive gathering with notable figures like former Governor George Pataki, journalist Lally Weymouth, ex-U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, Wendy Stark, co-owner of the NY Jets Woody Johnson (former U.S. Ambassador to the UK), John Bolton (ex-UN Ambassador and National Security Advisor), art collector Jane Holzer, writer Bob Colacello, and billionaire hedge fund manager John Paulson. The occasion? A half-hour screening of the 90-minute documentary, Once Upon a Time in Ukraine, directed by Betsy West. Post-screening, we had a stimulating Q&A session with David Rubenstein, chairman of the Council on Foreign Relations, and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Judith Miller. What an unforgettable gaming night!
Following the street crossing in the rain, guests convened at Le Charlot for dinner. There, conversations revolved around the poignant scenes of a film depicting the Ukrainian war from a child’s perspective, as well as individual projects. Allison Pataki, an acclaimed author and daughter of Pataki, is currently working on a screenplay about an unrecognized African American who contributed to the success of the Revolutionary War. Ivana Lowell discussed her upcoming Netflix show, House of Guinness that she will executive produce, and Howard Blum shared details about Village Roadshow adapting his book, The Night Comes Falling, into an eight-episode series. A guest commented on the event, “Whether it’s a beach screening of Jaws or a serious documentary, on a Sunday in the Hamptons, people gather to socialize, enjoy a shared cinematic experience, and give their private chef a well-deserved break.”
