One of 2024’s Disturbing Horror Games is Coming to Consoles

Wrong Organ’s highly-anticipated psychological horror game titled “Mouthwash” is set for release on both PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch later in the current year.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m excitedly waiting for the upcoming title from Critical Reflex. They’ve hinted that the game will drop digitally on both PlayStation and Nintendo platforms soon. Plus, they’ve got an Xbox version in the pipeline for a later release.

As a gamer hankering for a tangible copy, I’m delighted to know that I can grab the good old-fashioned version of Mouthwashing for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. On the downside, my fellow Xbox gamers don’t have the same physical release option yet.

Last year on Steam, I stumbled upon an intensely chilling game called Mouthwashing. Set in space aboard a derelict freighter ship, this psychological horror title drops you into a nightmare scenario after the autopilot malfunctioned catastrophically, leaving the pilot gravely wounded. Now it’s up to the remaining crew members to band together and survive as we each face our deepest fears and personal demons. It’s a haunting experience that I can’t shake off!

The tale weaves together in a non-chronological manner, switching between moments from both the past and the current situation on the Tulpar, gradually disclosing the crew’s adventures.

From a personal point of view, unlike DOOM, Mouthwashing isn’t about intense gun battles. Instead, it’s typically categorized as an “exploration experience,” emphasizing discovery and ambiance over combat encounters.

The game on Steam presently enjoys a highly favorable “Extremely Positive” rating, boasting more than 24,000 reviews from users. Numerous players have commended its eerie storyline that continues to haunt them even after they’ve finished watching the credits. Critics too have showered it with praise, bestowing scores in the range of 8s and 9s, particularly for its spine-tingling plotline.

Since its debut, mouthwashing has garnered numerous awards, including the Best Narrative and Player’s Choice titles at The Horror Game Awards. Furthermore, it is currently nominated for Best Narrative at the upcoming 25th Game Developers Choice Awards, which will be broadcast on March 19.

Much like several indie games with a storyline focus, Mouthwashing might not appeal to everyone. Nevertheless, enthusiasts of games such as Death Stranding, What Remains of Edith Finch, and Sunset Visitor’s 1000xResist will likely discover many aspects they’ll enjoy.
