One Of Hugh Jackman’s Variant Wolverine Costumes Cost More Than $100K To Construct, But It’s So Worth It

As a die-hard comic book enthusiast and longtime Marvel fanatic who has been following the cinematic universe since its inception, I can confidently say that the latest blockbuster, Deadpool & Wolverine, is nothing short of a visual feast for us fans. The epic clash between these two iconic characters was worth the wait, and the intricate details, such as the mind-blowing brown and yellow Wolverine suit, are testament to the unparalleled craftsmanship that goes into bringing these stories to life on the big screen.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe enjoys massive popularity, offering fresh content in cinemas and on Disney+. Despite recent box office challenges, the releases of Deadpool and Wolverine smashed records. Since then, every detail of the blockbuster has been scrutinized, with an editor disclosing that one of Hugh Jackman’s custom-made Wolverine costumes set the team back over $100,000. As a fan, it’s all worth the expense.

The principal cast for the film featuring Deadpool and Wolverine predominantly consisted of their respective actors, Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, with their playful rivalry adding to the spectacle. Fans who followed the Marvel series sequentially were thrilled to see Logan integrate into the common universe, and the sequence showcasing his different versions was particularly enjoyable. In a recent interview with ComicBookMovie, editor Dean Zimmerman discussed working on the movie, revealing that the grand brown and yellow suit was extremely costly… although it appeared on screen for merely a few seconds. He stated:

Initially, there were numerous options presented. One of our storyboard artists, who was a passionate comic book enthusiast, provided us with a selection of 10 different ones… There were quite a few to consider. For instance, we invested around $100,000 in constructing that distinctive brown and tan costume. They aren’t cheap… Due to budget constraints, we needed to find creative ways to adapt. ‘Hugh, would you mind removing your shirt and being affixed to a cross? I can certainly do that.’… ‘Could you portray an elderly character? Absolutely.’

There you have it. Jackman looked incredible in the brown Wolverine suit, although its impact on the budget definitely influenced other variant costumes. But after fans waited years for the yellow and blue suit, being able to see the brown one as well felt like a huge moment for fans of the comics like me.

In conclusion, Deadpool & Wolverine’s content resonated with both critics and viewers alike, which has led to speculation about their role in future Marvel films following its box office triumph (particularly in contrast to flops like The Marvels). However, the specifics of these plans remain unclear at this point. Yet, there is hope that the costly brown suit might find use in future productions, making the expense seem less painful.

In the action-packed third installment of Deadpool, a captivating moment featured the brown suit version. Although brief, this scene was particularly exciting due to Hugh Jackman’s character donning it during his quick encounter with The Hulk. Notably, this pairing is well-known from the comics, adding an extra layer of excitement to the fleeting scene.

Currently, Deadpool and Wolverine are playing in cinemas, with their run continuing. Then, on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, Captain America: Brave New World will be making its debut. To prepare for your movie outings in the New Year, take a look at the 2025 film release dates ahead of time.
