Up until now, I had believed that Season 2 of One Piece would debut on television schedules in 2025, but it appears my assumption was incorrect. Though Netflix has unveiled numerous movies and series set for release in 2025, such as a preview of Wake Up Dead Man, One Piece was not included in their lineup. Consequently, if Season 2 isn’t being saved as a surprise finale for the year, those with Netflix subscriptions won’t be able to enjoy the live-action versions of Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates continuing their adventures until 2026. I can’t help but feel disappointed by this news, yet at the same time, I find myself curious if this could possibly lead to some positive developments in the bigger picture.
In simple terms,
*The first season of “One Piece” premiered on August 31, 2023, and Netflix quickly renewed it for a second season just two weeks later. The filming for Season 2 commenced in early July 2024 in South Africa and ended on December 15th. Since “One Piece” heavily utilizes visual effects (VFX), it’s not surprising that postproduction took some time. However, the gap of around three years between Seasons 1 and 2 is quite a long wait – similar to the duration between Seasons 3 and 4, as well as 4 and the upcoming Season 5 of “Stranger Things.”*

One Piece Just Cast A Major Character For Season 2, But I Have Mixed Feelings
In a recent development of the One Piece series, a significant disclosure regarding Shanks was made, but it seems unlikely that the live-action adaptation will delve into this exciting detail. I can’t help but feel frustrated about it.
Could it be that we won’t know about the release of One Piece Season 3 until as late as early 2026? While there’s a chance of this happening, I prefer to remain hopeful due to some compelling factors. It’s worth noting that One Piece became Netflix’s most-watched original TV show in the second half of 2023 (as reported by Variety). Add to that the substantial fanbase for the One Piece manga and anime, as well as Netflix’s ongoing investment in this franchise with the upcoming One Piece anime remake, it seems unlikely that Netflix would abandon the live-action One Piece series after only two seasons, particularly if Season 2 doesn’t perform as well as Season 1.
Based on my thoughts: It’s possible that later this year, Netflix might announce the commencement of development for Season 3 of “One Piece.” If so, it would be great if filming starts before 2025 ends. This assurance would alleviate fans’ concerns about the series being discontinued, and they’d especially appreciate seeing the Alabasta arc unfold since Season 2 won’t reach that point. This extension of “One Piece” into 2027 is speculative at this stage, although I can only hope the show continues beyond that. However, let’s not jump ahead to such distant possibilities just yet.
In 2025, I’ll be all set with the “One Piece” content since I’m currently making my way through the Dressrosa arc in the anime series, which means there’s a lot more to catch up on before I’m fully up-to-date. However, I can’t wait for the comeback of the live-action “One Piece”, as it initially sparked my interest in this franchise. So, I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed that Season 2 is released quickly and hopefully Season 3 follows suit soon after.
