Only 4 Netflix Shows EVER Reached This CRAZY Milestone!

The British limited series on Netflix, titled “Adolescence,” has achieved a significant streaming milestone. This gripping drama, co-created by Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham, spans four episodes, each featuring a single continuous take that unfolds the story of Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper), a 13-year-old boy who is under suspicion for the murder of his classmate Katie Leonard (Emilia Holliday). The talented cast of “Adolescence” also includes Graham, Ashley Walters, Faye Marsay, Mark Stanley, and Christine Tremarco.

The teen drama “Adolescence” has held strong interest from viewers over a month since its debut, racking up an impressive 130.2 million views and a whopping total of 499 million viewing hours. This consistent popularity places it at the third spot on Netflix’s list of most-watched English language series of all time. Remarkably, this makes “Adolescence” the fourth Netflix series to surpass 130 million views, and the fifth season overall to achieve such a milestone.

Among all shows that surpassed a significant viewership mark, only a handful join the ranks of “Stranger Things” season 4 (140.7 million viewers), my personal favorite “Squid Game” season 2 (192.6 million), “Wednesday” season 1 (252.1 million), and the original “Squid Game” season 1 (265.2 million). Interestingly, the South Korean sensation “Squid Game” stands alone as the only series to have two seasons surpass this impressive viewership milestone.

What This Means For Adolescence

This Is A Rare Achievement

Despite Netflix boasting numerous popular series that have shattered viewership records, the limited series “Adolescence” has achieved an extraordinary feat by surpassing the 130 million viewer mark. Few shows have come close to achieving this milestone, and in fact, only four other series – “Monster”, “Bridgerton”, “The Queen’s Gambit”, and “Money Heist” – have managed to break through the 100 million barrier. Below is a comparison of the viewership numbers for the remaining seven shows on the Top 10 English-language series chart, three of which failed to reach the 100 million milestone.

Rank Title Viewers
#4 DAHMER: Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story 115.6 million
#5 Bridgerton season 1 113.3 million
#6 The Queen’s Gambit 112.8 million
#7 Bridgerton season 3 106 million
#8 The Night Agent season 1 98.2 million
#9 Fool Me Once 98.2 million
#10 Stranger Things season 3 94.8 million

It’s highly plausible that other shows will surpass the 130 million viewership mark, much like Adolescence did. This is largely due to the fact that the streaming platform has planned follow-up seasons for several of its successful titles. For instance, we can expect Wednesday season 2, Squid Game season 3, and Stranger Things season 5. Despite the stiff competition, the new series is likely to maintain a spot in the Top 10 for an extended period after achieving this milestone.

Our Take On The Adolescence Streaming Record

It May Not Spur Season 2 Into Existence

Despite the incredible popularity of “Adolescence” captivating millions, the show’s future remains somewhat unclear. While there have been discussions with director Philip Barantini at Plan B Entertainment about a potential follow-up that could explore new narratives within an anthology framework, a traditional second season seems unlikely. Instead, it appears that the success of this series will primarily inspire other shows sharing similar themes rather than continuing the story within its universe.
