Actress Sonali Kulkarni, known for her upcoming comedy-drama series Oops! Ab Kya?, shared a past experience of feeling humiliated due to her dark skin during an interview with OTTplay. She mentioned that she faced prejudice based on her complexion when auditioning for her debut film.

Reflecting on the past, Sonali, the seasoned actress, shared an anecdote about her initial audition for a movie by director Girish Karnad. Upon entering, she encountered some familiar faces – her friends and elderly folks. Among them was a well-known city lady. Curious, the elder woman inquired of Sonali, “What brings you here?

Because Bharat actress didn’t catch the sarcastic tone in the woman’s question, she replied by mentioning that young women like her were motivated to participate in the workshop she had attended. Shortly after, the woman glanced at Kulkarni and joked, “Apparently you haven’t realized it yet, but dark-skinned girls don’t photograph well on camera.

Upon learning the news, Sonali was taken aback. She confessed that she felt extremely vulnerable, being just 16 years old, and deeply embarrassed. It seemed to her as if she had made a mistake coming there. However, after speaking with Girish Karnad, she found herself feeling more at peace.

In terms of her upcoming roles, Sonali Kulkarni will appear in the comedy-drama series “Oops! Ab Kya?” which is set to debut on Disney+ Hotstar on February 20, 2025. This series is helmed by directors Prem Mistry and Debatma Mandal, and produced by Dice Media. The main character, Roohi, will be portrayed by Shweta Basu Prasad.
