This morning, ChatGPT, a popular AI-powered chatbot developed by OpenAI, encountered an unexpected downtime, preventing users from utilizing the service.
At approximately 4:00 am Pacific Time, users started encountering error messages as they attempted to access their accounts due to system issues.
At approximately 5:12 am, OpenAI acknowledged an issue impacting both ChatGPT and its API. Immediately upon recognizing this problem, they began investigating to find a resolution.
At around 4:00 a.m. Pacific Time, they mentioned that they’re still looking into the matter.

At 5:43 a.m., OpenAI reported discovering a solution, and by 7:09 a.m., they successfully addressed the problem, restoring their platform to full functionality. The AI company indicated they will continue to watch over the service to catch any additional problems that may arise.

It’s not the first instance where something like this has occurred. In fact, just last December, both ChatGPT and its API experienced an outage of approximately three hours, similar to what we’re experiencing now. The cause back then was technical issues related to a new telemetry service.
Nevertheless, ChatGPT continues to garner increasing attention from users, particularly following its debut in November 2022. Currently, the platform processes over a billion conversations on a daily basis and boasts more than 100 million active users.
