As a long-time NCIS enthusiast, I must confess that the latest prequel series, NCIS: Origins, has me utterly captivated. The early ’90s setting and the glimpse into Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ life just weeks after losing his family is a poignant and gripping narrative twist.
The “NCIS: Origins” prequel series, set to air in 2024, offers viewers a glimpse into the early ’90s life of Leroy Gibbs as a newly minted NIS agent, following his loss of his wife and daughter. Alongside this, familiar characters from the “NCIS” franchise are being further developed, alongside new ones. Following a hint in the premiere about “her story,” Austin Stowell has an idea as to why this tale has not been explored in the main series.
Mark Harmon once again assumed the role of Gibbs, mainly providing narration for the series “Origins“, making occasional on-screen appearances as well, such as in the premiere. Towards the finale, he mentioned that this is a tale he’s never shared before, which has been hinted at in promotional materials prior to the debut. However, in an unexpected twist, he commented “This is her story,” seemingly referring to Mariel Molino’s character Lala Dominguez. So, why are we learning about this only now, after 19 years of “NCIS” narratives?
Austin Stowell, portraying the younger version of Gibbs in the prequel, shared with TVLine his private conjecture about the plotline, which seems plausible enough for the creators to keep under wraps, even if the actor considers himself past it. To quote him directly: “This is my personal theory…
As a gamer, I had an intriguing suspicion from the get-go – I believed she was Pedro Hernandez’s daughter. I suspected some sort of connection between them. However, after recent developments, I believe my gut feelings were misguided. It seems that theory is no longer in play.
For those needing a brief revisit, Pedro Hernandez was a Mexican drug trafficker who allegedly committed the murders of Gibbs’ wife Shannon and daughter Kelly. In 1991, Gibbs took justice into his own hands by killing Hernandez. It’s intriguing to consider if this is true; it could explain why Gibbs hadn’t shared this story earlier. However, it appears that speculation has been debunked, and Stowell remains as perplexed as the rest of us.
It appears that the backstory of a certain character may remain a mystery for now, as “Origins” primarily focuses on Gibbs’ past. As the series unfolds, we can expect more insights into other characters’ stories as well. For the time being, the reason behind this character’s enigmatic background remains unexplained.
While the tale of her remains shrouded in enigma for many, the narrative of Gibbs unfolds further, revealing more about his past. Lately, Origins has added another significant character from Gibbs’ past by introducing a young Agent Fornell. Additionally, the series has now disclosed how Gibbs crossed paths with Franks, and there is much more to be unveiled in the coming chapters.
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled about the full-season order for “Origins”! This means we’ll get to delve deeper into these captivating characters and uncover hidden layers. Who knows what secrets will be unearthed? It’s exciting to imagine what else is in store and finally understand why these stories have only begun to unfold now. Tune in for new episodes of “NCIS: Origins” every Monday at 10 p.m. ET on CBS!
