As a long-time fan of the original “Orphan Black”, I must confess that I was incredibly excited for the sequel series “Echoes”. The idea of Krysten Ritter stepping into the shoes of Sarah Manning’s daughter, Kira, and exploring the world of clones in a new light was tantalizing.
AMC has announced that they will not be continuing with the show “Orphan Black: Echoes” beyond its first season, according to what The Hollywood Reporter has found out.
The sequel series to “Orphan Black,” featuring Krysten Ritter, is situated in a future that’s not far off, sharing the same fictional universe as the popular BBC show starring Tatiana Maslany, who earned an Emmy for her portrayal of Sarah Manning.
As suggested by its title, “Echoes” centers around Kira (Ritter), who along with her spouse, endeavors to aid an amnesiac woman. This futuristic series delves into the complexities of manipulating human existence through science. A collection of women become intertwined in one another’s lives and embark on a gripping adventure, peeling back layers to reveal the enigma of their identities while uncovering a poignant tale of love, deception, and heartbreak.
The show hails from writer-producer Anna Fishko and Boat Rocker’s Temple Street Productions, who were behind the original series that aired between 2013 and 2017. Apart from this one, Fishko has worked on AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead and Netflix’s The Society. Joining the cast are Keeley Hawes, Amanda Fix, Avan Jogia, Rya Kihlstedt, and James Hiroyuki Liao.
Before the premiere of our exciting new show, I had an enlightening conversation with THR about the challenges we faced bringing this project to life in today’s dynamic television industry. It’s not easy launching a fresh concept, but I believe the journey has been worth it!
At the time, she mentioned that having an established intellectual property and a well-known brand, along with a built-in audience, made it an attractive option. What drew her specifically to this platform was its unique identity; it’s not a carbon copy of the original series. Instead, it shares the same universe with clones or replicas, but it’s distinct from the original. She wasn’t going to play multiple characters like Tatiana [Maslany]. This show isn’t a remake; rather, it stands on its own merits.
