Sandhya Suri’s new film, titled Santosh, is drawing attention as the United Kingdom’s chosen submission for this year’s Oscars. The movie follows a widow who takes up her late husband’s job as a police officer. However, there are indications that the release date might be pushed back because the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) hasn’t given its final approval yet.
As per Mid Day’s report, the holiday season at the end of the year disrupted the original plan. Santosh’s film trailer received approval on New Year’s Day, 2025, however, the full movie’s final certification is yet to be granted.
The report suggested that the movie might encounter some difficulties due to its socio-political content, yet stressed that the board’s ultimate decision wouldn’t be made until they watched it. They underlined the importance of the film striking a delicate balance between expressing its artistic spirit and being mindful of local customs.
In their promotional materials, PVR Pictures, who handles the distribution of Santosh in India, have chosen not to provide a specific release date. Instead, they mention that the movie is expected to arrive at cinemas soon.
The marketing team at PVR has suggested a minor adjustment to the schedule: the release could be pushed back slightly to guarantee exclusive screens in specific areas. However, they’ve assured us that the movie featuring Shahana Goswami as the main character is still on track for a premiere towards the end of January.
The movie titled Santosh is a joint production among the United Kingdom, India, Germany, and France. Despite being chosen as the UK’s nominee for the Oscars, actor Shahana Goswami expressed during an interview with Hindustan Times that there are many reasons for India to feel proud of it.
The movie goes beyond national limitations, as it’s not a possession of any single nation according to Shahana. With substantial contributions from an Indian crew, she believes the film’s core spirit is universal. Shahana pointed out that while the narrative carries a global theme, it maintains strong roots in India and champions storytelling and diversity, irrespective of its originating country.
