As a die-hard fan who has spent countless hours sailing the seas of Outer Banks with my fellow Pogues, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions as Season 5 was announced to be the final voyage. But fear not, for the co-creators have hinted at a spinoff that could keep our beloved world alive!
It’s been confirmed that season 5 of Outer Banks will mark the end of the series, but don’t let that fool you into believing the world of OBX is vanishing. In truth, quite the opposite is happening! The show’s creators, Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke, have hinted at the possibility of a spinoff. And I can tell you who I’d love to see as the main character in this potential new series.
Outer Banks Could Get A Spinoff
With all episodes of Season 4 now aired according to the 2024 TV schedule, the co-creators of OBX recently spoke with Deadline about what transpired and future developments. Although they were tight-lipped, Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke hinted that Season 5 might not be the final chapter, suggesting: “Season 5 may not wrap things up completely.
We are excited for Season 5, and we’re excited for other stories in this universe down the line.
Given that OBX, slated for release on Netflix in 2024 and already popular since its debut season, it’s no surprise they aim to broaden the series’ universe. Beyond the television show, Netflix has also introduced mobile games and live events centered around Outer Banks. It’s evident they have a strong connection with this property. Moreover, who wouldn’t be intrigued by more treasure hunt adventures? Consequently, a spinoff seems ideal for sustaining the universe’s life and presenting a novel narrative.
Subsequently, the creators of the series failed to expand upon their concepts for the proposed spinoff. Moreover, as per reports from Deadline, no official plans are underway. Nevertheless, since the co-creators express interest in its development, I remain optimistic.
So, with that in mind, here’s my pitch for what an Outer Banks spinoff should be about.
I Think The Spinoff Should Follow Carlacia Grant’s Cleo
In my opinion, among the Outer Banks characters, it’s Cleo who seems most deserving of her own spinoff series. Here are two reasons for this suggestion:
Initially, it seems to me that we’ve tackled the Pogues’ tales completely, and they truly merit victory. We’re well aware of their backgrounds, have witnessed them (particularly John B.) battling for survival for quite some time now, and they could surely use a respite. Thus, let’s focus on the latest addition to their group, Cleo, as our next focal point.
I’m intrigued by the depth of Carlacia Grant’s character from the Bahamas, and I can’t wait to learn more about her backstory. Delving into her history with Terrance, as well as examining her current family dynamics, presents numerous possibilities for a Cleo spinoff series that promises to be engaging.
As a devoted Bridgerton fan, let me share my two-cents on an intriguing idea. Building upon the success of Queen Charlotte, a spinoff that delved deeper into the romantic universe we’ve come to love, I can’t help but envision a prequel centered around the captivating character, Cleo. Such a series would not only offer fresh perspectives and flavors but also provide valuable insights into the backstory of the flagship series, making it truly fabulous!
An alternative approach might be to choose a more youthful actor for the lead role, then jump ahead to the current timeline of Cleo to seamlessly blend the narratives and make stronger connections with the series, “Outer Banks”.
From what I gather, there’s a lot of potential in her story and I’m intrigued by her sea voyages. She’s a character with layers yet unexplored, which suggests that she could be the perfect protagonist for any future spinoff series. It seems plausible to me that if Outer Banks expands, it might center around Cleo.
Only the future can reveal what happens in that aspect. For now, let’s continue daydreaming about potential sequels, and don’t forget to watch Seasons 1 to 4 of the show “Outer Banks” on Netflix if you haven’t already!
