For more than a decade now, the captivating historical fantasy drama series “Outlander” has become an integral part of numerous viewers’ lives. The premiere of “Outlander” happened as far back as 2014 on Starz, and not so long ago, the final episode of Season 7 aired. Despite being on-air for quite some time, this program, adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s book series, has never failed to keep audiences engaged.

In the first six seasons, which can be found on Netflix, viewers are taken on a rollercoaster ride of suspense and unpredictable events. However, this most recent season has introduced an unexpected character, leaving fans puzzled and eager for more details. Known for its numerous plot twists, this latest surprise in the popular series ‘Outlander’ could potentially determine the fate of Season 8.

Claire and Jamie’s Daughter Faith Might Be Alive in ‘Outlander’

Prior to Brianna’s arrival, Claire and Jamie had a stillborn daughter named Faith in France, under the care of Master Raymond. Since Claire herself held her baby for an entire day and realized there was no hope, it seemed undeniable to both Claire and every Outlander fan that Faith would not return. However, Outlander Season 7 took everyone by surprise with a striking turn of events.

When William discovered that Jamie was his father, he started acting unconventionally, eventually encountering a woman named Jane Pocock, who had been a prostitute. After learning that she had killed a man who intended to force her younger sister, Fanny, into sexual relations, William tried to aid her in avoiding prison time. Regrettably, Jane couldn’t be saved from incarceration, thus dashing the dreams of many fans who were anticipating a romantic future for Jane and William in the series Outlander.

Due to an unexpected turn of events, William requested that Claire and Jamie bring Fanny along to Fraser’s Ridge. However, when they encountered each other, Fanny was singing a tune titled “I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside”. This song is from a later era, adding to the mystery. Interestingly enough, this was the same melody that Claire had sung for Faith. Understandably, Claire’s initial assumption was that Faith had lived and Fanny was, in reality, her granddaughter.

Bringing Back Faith Could Help Claire in ‘Outlander’

In Season 2 of the popular Starz series, when Claire initially encountered Master Raymond in France, she discovered his unique ability to heal, which he depicted as a radiant blue energy around him. After Claire suffered the loss of Faith and was grappling with her sorrow, Master Raymond revealed to Claire that she too possessed similar healing abilities, though she needed to fully embrace them. At this time, Claire also showed signs of a blue aura, but Master Raymond, who could travel through time, informed Claire that Jamie carried the red aura of a warrior. Later on, a Mohawk healer shared with Claire that once her hair turned white, she would be ready to utilize her healing abilities to their full potential.

In my humble opinion as a movie reviewer, hints throughout the series regarding Master Raymond’s healing abilities and Claire’s could imply that Master Raymond was capable of saving Faith, and for some unknown reason, took her away with him. Perhaps he is employing this seemingly drastic method to demonstrate to Claire the limits of her own powers, and maybe it was only after she faced death herself (being shot) that she became open to discovering these abilities. Her survival and learning about her daughter could be the final catalyst she needs to fully embrace exploring her own powers beyond the conventional methods she is accustomed to.

It’s undeniable that the death of Faith greatly affected Jamie and Claire. If she were somehow brought back in Season 8 of Outlander, it could add an intriguing twist, provided it’s executed skillfully. This could be achieved by discovering that she lived or learning more about her experiences, or even unveiling that she too is a time traveler and still alive. The return of Faith, either in person or through Fanny, would make the reunion on Fraser Ridge feel like a closing of loops or coming full circle.

In ‘Outlander’ There Are Too Many Storylines, Too Little Time

In the upcoming Season 8 of Outlander, actor Sam Heughan (as James Fraser) hinted to Decider that we’ll delve into the mysteries surrounding Faith and potentially find some answers about her existence. Given the emotional significance of Faith’s birth for Jamie and Claire, even the possibility of her survival could stir up a maelstrom of feelings, from confusion to hope and everything in between.

If it’s true that Faith truly existed and Fanny is indeed Claire’s granddaughter, this could open up a significant plotline, sparking numerous questions about how Faith managed to survive, if she’s still alive, and even the possibility of time travel. If this were the case, Faith might be living in another time, but sending Claire to find her would detract from the other storylines fans are eagerly anticipating to be resolved in Season 8. Introducing an entirely new timeline in the final season of Outlander seems challenging, and it could potentially tarnish the show.

As Brianna and Roger rejoin Claire and Jamie’s era, bringing their own children along, the complex relationships – particularly the strained dynamics between William and Jamie, as well as between Jamie and potential spin-off character Lord John – promise to keep the ongoing Starz series busy. Additionally, numerous plot points such as Jamie being deprived of raising his child for a third time, their granddaughter being forced into prostitution and perishing, Claire’s friend deceiving her for decades, and the questionable use of magic to revive a stillborn baby – all factors that resonated with viewers – add layers of complexity. Furthermore, the revelation that lovers William and Jane are related introduces another intriguing twist to the storyline. Whether this development will strengthen or weaken Outlander remains to be seen as only time can tell its impact on the show. Outlander is accessible for streaming on Netflix and Starz.
