As a seasoned Overwatch player with years of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia when it comes to Junkrat. You see, I remember the good old days when this Australian explosives-loving rogue was a mainstay in my team compositions. Back then, I spent countless hours perfecting the art of laying traps and launching frag bombs with pinpoint accuracy.
An Australian character in Overwatch 2, known for his fascination with explosives and relishing destruction and chaos, expresses his role perfectly with his catchphrase: “Today’s a great day for creating havoc. Come see me unleash maximum mayhem.”
Abilities explained
Name | Type | Effect |
Frag Launcher | Primary Fire | Bouncing explosive projectile weapon |
Total Mayhem | Hero Passive | Deals no damage to self with explosives. Drop bombs on death |
Concussion Mine | Ability | Throw a knockback mine and then manually detonate it |
Steel Trap | Ability | Place an immobilizing trap |
RIP-Tire | Ultimate | Drive and detonate an exploding tire |
Role: Damage | Role Passive | Damaging an enemy temporarily reduces their healing received |
In Junkrat’s gear, it’s clear that his skills are not designed for dishing out damage in the usual straight-forward manner of other damage heroes.
Rather than relying on overt weaponry and skills, he excels at covert tactics such as setting traps, using explosives, and inflicting additional damage in various locations during battles.
Tips for playing Junkrat
As a big fan of Junkrat, I’d say his abilities really shine when it comes to catching enemies off guard. You can go in for quick and intense battles up close, or add an extra layer of chaos by distracting the enemy team and drawing their fire while your allies advance.
Junkrat’s skills enable the Australian bomb enthusiast to inflict significant damage in rapid bursts. Nevertheless, it takes extra time for his Frag Launcher to hurl bombs farther distances, and he has a low health pool of just 200 HP.
Based on my extensive experience as a seasoned gamer, I strongly suggest mastering the art of navigating the trajectory of your character’s projectiles and learning how to effectively bounce them off walls while hiding behind cover. This strategy enables you to unleash a torrent of fire upon your adversaries without revealing your position. Moreover, seizing the advantage of higher ground significantly enhances your ability to rain down frag bombs on opponents from a vantage point they may not anticipate. Trust me, these tactics have saved my hide countless times during intense gaming sessions!
An unexpected talent of the Concussion Mines is their versatility. Initially, since Junkrat is immune to the damage caused by his own explosives, these mines serve as effective tools for Junkrat to propel himself forward and upwards across maps with great speed.
As a gamer, I can tell you that the Concussion Mines are a formidable weapon in my arsenal. Instead of waiting for them to explode on their own, I have the power to trigger them instantly after throwing. This results in a devastating double hit, each one dealing massive damage, when I’m engaged in combat with enemies at medium range.
The Steel Trap’s effectiveness can be enhanced by using these items in unison. Once the trap is activated, they will explode, delivering an additional injury to the person caught within.
Reaching higher ground is beneficial when using the RIP-Tire ultimate, enabling surprise attacks against clusters of enemies for numerous kills.
If you’re unable to reach elevated spots, a ultimate (ult) can still prove beneficial on maps featuring cramped spaces and passageways. By maneuvering the tire, you can create a protective barrier while advancing. Moreover, it has the ability to “corral” enemies, causing them to retreat, thereby diverting their focus from objectives.
During heated battles among team members, players rarely pay attention to the ground below them, focusing instead on what’s in front of them. However, Junkrat’s Steel Trap, although not causing significant damage, can be crucial for survival or winning the fight when used effectively.
Using the Steel Trap as a tactic, either from yourself or an ally, can catch enemies off guard and create an opportunity for a fatal strike; it may even deliver the decisive blow itself.
If you’re in a good position to oversee an entrance or exit, setting up a Steel Trap there is an effective strategy for ambushing an enemy attempting to sneak up on you. This gives you the advantage of surprising them first, making them susceptible to your bombs and Concussion Mines barrage.
