Overwatch’s Egyptian-themed season bizarrely snubs Ramattra

As a dedicated Overwatch fan with over a decade of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a twinge of disappointment as I witness the apparent snubbing of Ramattra in Season 12. With his deep-rooted ties to Anubis, it seems only fitting that our sandy-themed season would pay homage to this unique connection.

Overwatch 2’s Season 12 is almost here, and Blizzard has recently unveiled what goodies await players!

Incorporating imagery of pyramids and deserts, Overwatch 2 Season 12 is drawing inspiration from the style and elegance of Tutankhamun for its decorative elements and overall look, as it prepares to infuse an Egyptian theme throughout the game. This season promises fresh skins, maps, cosmetics, and a brand-new character called Juno.

However, it seems that fans have thoroughly analyzed the latest update, expressing disappointment that Blizzard overlooked the opportunity to highlight the character in Overwatch inspired by an Egyptian deity, namely Ramattra.

Overwatch 2 fans baffled as Ramattra gets snubbed in Egyptian-themed Season 12

In the storyline of Overwatch 2, it’s established that Ramattra is connected to the ancient Egyptian deity Anubis, whom he was created by. However, in the latest Egyptian-themed elements of the game, Ramattra is overlooked, with Mercy and other characters being portrayed as pharaohs instead.

Following the release of the trailer, there was an influx of comments from fans expressing curiosity about Ramattra, whose Egyptian connections have been largely overlooked despite a new Clash map being modeled after him. This is particularly notable given that the “Throne of Anubis” map clearly references Ramattra.

A fan expressed disappointment, saying it’s unfair that there’s no connection for Ramattra in an Egyptian-themed season given his character is essentially Anubis. Another fan suggested that maybe Blizzard holds a grudge towards Ramattra.

Not only is the Anubis skin, which has caused much debate, included in the Premium Battle Pass, but it’s now been assigned to Reaper instead of Ramattra – a decision that might not sit well with some players.

It was noted by other players that Venture, who is known for his passion as an archaeologist and fascination with ancient Egyptian mythology, was likewise excluded from the gathering.

The Overwatch lore suggests that Ramattra harbors strong disdain towards Anubis, as evident in his frequent mentions of his creator when conversing with Pharah. This deep-seated animosity could have led Blizzard to consider a skin based on Anubis’ nemesis as being somewhat incongruous or irrelevant.
