Own the Legendary Necronomicon from ‘Evil Dead’ – But It Won’t Come Cheap!

In more straightforward terms, among all genres, horror movies might contain the most sought-after props. For instance, Freddy Krueger’s glove, Leatherface’s chainsaw, and even the cup used by the lady in “Get Out” to hypnotize Chris. Many fans dream of owning a prop from their favorite horror films. Interestingly, it’s possible to acquire one of horror’s most treasured items: the Necronomicon from “Evil Dead,” also known as the Book of the Dead. This artifact becomes active when certain incantations are recited to summon the mischievous and malevolent demons from Sam Raimi’s series.

According to Bloody Disgusting, Propstore is hosting its annual event showcasing movie memorabilia you adore, officially known as “Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction: Los Angeles Spring 2025.” Mark your calendars for March 26, 2025. If you’re interested, you can sign up and preview some of the significant items to be auctioned. These include a Superman suit from Superman III, a Star Wars: A New Hope medal, and a Ghost Trap from Ghostbusters, along with many more intriguing pieces. Given the price range, it seems that life savings might be at stake!

Regardless, if you are a horror enthusiast, this auction could have an item that piques your interest. Known for his special effects, Tom Sullivan who originally worked on the 1981 film, will be offering various props at the auction. Among these props, the most intriguing is undoubtedly the Necronomicon, or as hinted in the first film, the Naturom Demonto. This artifact appears in all three movies, and the article’s headline describes it succinctly: “Auction Features Rare Horror Prop: The Legendary ‘Necronomicon’ from ‘Evil Dead’ Trilogy”.

In simpler terms, the prop used in Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead movie, titled “Necronomicon Ex-Mortis” or the “Book of the Dead,” was hand-drawn by its creator, Tom Sullivan. An archaeologist named Raymond Knowby (played by Bob Dorian) found this ancient book, known as the Naturom Demonto or “Book of the Dead.” He recorded himself reading from it, and when Ash Williams (portrayed by Bruce Campbell) and his friends listened to these recordings, they accidentally summoned the malevolent force of the Kandarian Demon. The intricate details in the hand-drawn illustrations on eight pages of this book were carefully matched to close-ups of its pages in the film.

1) In the original Evil Dead trilogy, the Book of the Dead made an appearance in each movie. It was called the Naturom Demonto in the first film, but was then referred to as the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis in the subsequent films, Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness. The surviving Naturom Demonto is the only known copy from the original Evil Dead movie that has survived till today, and it’s unique because it’s the only heroic book ever created.

Apart from the Necronomicon, there are other ominous artifacts from the “Evil Dead” series up for auction. Over the years, Tom Sullivan, a key contributor to the film and its precursor, “Within the Woods,” has amassed a large collection of props and items related to these projects, which he’s kept stored away. In addition to the Necronomicon, some other items set to be auctioned include:
