It’s interesting to note that Ozzy Osbourne might have played a part in the Pirates of the Caribbean series. His wife and long-term manager, Sharon, shared on “The Magnificent Others with Billy Corgan” podcast that the iconic singer was given an opportunity to try out for a role.
Have you ever wondered about the biggest blunder I made with Ozzy? He was given an opportunity to audition for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’. This is something I’ve never shared before. I declined. Don’t you think he would have been a great fit?
It would have been a remarkable choice for the “Lord of Darkness” to appear in Pirates of the Caribbean. However, Sharon pointed out that Johnny Depp had actually wished for Keith Richards to play a pirate instead.
Johnny Depp modeled his portrayal of Jack Sparrow on Keith Richards, the Rolling Stones guitarist. Consequently, it was fitting that he advocated for the role of Captain Teague, Jack’s long-lost father, in “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” (2007) and later in “On Stranger Tides” (2011).
During this period, “The Osbournes,” a popular reality TV series on MTV (airing from 2002 to 2005), was in full swing. On this show, Ozzy often appeared bewildered and unlike his typical self, which contributed to the overall comedic effect. Later on, it emerged that he was under the influence during filming. Given his behavior on the show and his reputation in the heavy metal scene, it wasn’t surprising that the producers of Pirates of the Caribbean might have considered Ozzy for a role. Although Sharon didn’t reveal what potential role it could have been.
What’s the Latest with the New Pirates of the Caribbean Movie?
Last year, Jerry Bruckheimer mentioned that two new Pirates of the Caribbean movies were being worked on. One of these films would star Margot Robbie, while the other was a reboot featuring a younger cast. At that point, Bruckheimer stated that the studio was almost ready with both projects. He expressed:
We’ve created two scripts, one featuring Margot Robbie and another with a younger ensemble. The script starring Margot still requires some fine-tuning, but the one with the younger cast is nearly ready. Fingers crossed that we can bring both to fruition.”
This version maintains the original meaning while using more natural language and a smoother flow.
Has there been any confirmation from Disney that Johnny Depp will reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow? Despite producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s expressed desire for Depp to return, no official announcement has been made following the legal disputes with Amber Heard.
As for myself, I’d definitely prefer to have Johnny Depp around. He’s an exceptional actor and a dear friend of mine. We’ve exchanged words before, but the future remains uncertain. Let’s wait and see what transpires.
Although one of the two upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean movies is a reboot, it wouldn’t be logical for Depp to resume his iconic role that propelled the franchise to global success, grossing $4.5 billion at the worldwide box office. Given the female-led Pirates movie featuring Robbie, there’s a possibility that Depp might appear in an extended cameo (and possibly Ozzy as well, with a minor role). However, until Disney officially approves either or both films and confirms Depp’s return, everything remains in a state of development limbo.
