In February, the heartwarming sequel to the movie that left Nicolas Cage and Pedro Pascal emotional in “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent”, titled “Paddington 2“, will be available for streaming at a new location. This delightful film was released three years following the initial release of the original Paddington movie in 2014. The series features Ben Whishaw (Black Doves) as the voice of the beloved talking bear, with Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Madeleine Harris, and Samuel Joslin rounding out the Brown family who adopt Paddington. Starting February 1st, you can stream Paddington 2 for free on Tubi.
In the second movie, following my narrow miss with the notorious poacher Millicent (Nicole Kidman), life for me, Paddington, became even more challenging. I was unfairly accused of a crime by the cunning Phoenix Buchanan (Hugh Grant) and found myself behind bars. Yet, in this difficult circumstance, I managed to form bonds with my fellow prisoners, including the imposing ‘Knuckles’ McGinty (Brendan Gleeson), who aided me in escaping and pursuing Phoenix to establish my innocence.
It’s widely acknowledged that among the Paddington films, the second one is generally considered the finest. This view is reinforced by its exceptional rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which stands at an almost perfect 99%. Interestingly, this score represents a slight increase from the original movie’s 97%, demonstrating strong audience approval for the sequel. Additionally, Paddington 2 has been highly praised on Letterboxd, averaging a rating of 4.2 out of 5. At one point, it even held a perfect 100% rating and was, surprisingly, regarded as the best-reviewed film of all time on Rotten Tomatoes, even surpassing the legendary Citizen Kane.
Will ‘Paddington 4’ Happen?
Previously, we witnessed the debut of the third installment in the series titled “Paddington Abroad” or simply “Paddington in Peru”. Although the essence of London remains within the bear, this movie ventured beyond London, following the journey of Paddington and his Brown family (with Emily Mortimer stepping into Sally Hawkins’ role as Mary Brown). Together, they embarked on a quest to locate Paddington’s Aunt Lucy in the captivating landscapes of Peru.
Without a doubt, everyone seems to think that “Paddington in Peru” is the least impressive of the trilogy. Regardless, it was an exhilarating journey that managed to secure a fantastic 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie also did well financially, even though it hasn’t been screened in US and Canadian theaters yet. “Paddington in Peru” is slated for release in US cinemas on February 14th, and industry experts predict that this release will significantly boost its overall box office earnings.
Fans are eagerly anticipating a potential fourth installment of the popular franchise, as it seems that Paddington 4 may indeed become a reality. Back in September of last year, even before Paddington in Peru was released in the US and Canada, StudioCanal announced they were working on Paddington 4. While the film has yet to receive official approval from the studio, it’s currently under development. Given the remarkable success of the franchise thus far, there’s a strong likelihood that Paddington 4 will be given the greenlight sometime this year.
