Padma Lakshmi is returning to the culinary competition world.
Previously known as the host and producer of “Top Chef,” Lakshmi is set to lead a new food-related show on CBS, tentatively called “America’s Culinary Cup.” Lakshmi has devised the program’s structure and will serve as an executive producer, working alongside Susan Rovner, who previously held a top position at NBCUniversal.
The project was being planned for quite a few months, since Lakshmi and Rovner signed a development contract with CBS back in September 2024.
In the upcoming 2025-26 television season, the prestigious cooking competition known as “America’s Culinary Cup” will showcase some of the country’s most accomplished chefs. According to the show’s description, they will be put through a series of tests that aim to push their creativity, stamina, presentation skills, leadership abilities, and other key culinary traits to the limit.
Lakshmi announced that we are inviting top chefs from all over the country to showcase their distinctive cooking styles in a competitive event. This competition mirrors the excitement of sports and embodies the American spirit, as we root for our preferred chefs. I’m genuinely thrilled about collaborating with CBS and joining forces with Susan on the America’s Culinary Cup.
The new show represents CBS’s initial venture into the food competition segment of reality TV in over a decade. Given her extensive experience, it’s clear that Lakshmi is well-versed in this realm, having hosted 19 seasons of Top Chef on Bravo and garnering numerous Emmy nominations. She parted ways with the show in 2023, expressing that her departure was the result of deep reflection. Additionally, Lakshmi created and presented the Emmy-nominated documentary series Taste the Nation on Hulu.
Lakshmi serves as the executive producer for America’s Culinary Cup through her company, Delicious Entertainment. Meanwhile, Rovner takes on the role of executive producer for this show via Aha Studios.
